PrizePicks was launched in 2018 and is a no-frills Daily Fantasy Sports platform offering an innovative take on prop wagers. At PrizePicks, you don’t need to worry about salary caps or complex team rosters – just predict how up to four different players will do.

Prize Picks’ mission is to put their players first and create the fastest, simplest and most entertaining fantasy game in the industry. This review will cover all that you need to know about this exciting new site and how it can help you bring more excitement to the sports that you watch as well as simplify your fantasy sports experience.

That’s not the only bonus available though. If you like the site, you can also invite a friend (or friends) to join in. This is a pretty good recruitment bonus: for every single friend that signs up to the site and makes a deposit, you’ll be given $20 in cash right to your account. What’s even better is that if your referral makes a first deposit that’s over $100, you’ll get an additional 10% of their deposit dropped into your account too, supplementing your bankroll quite nicely.

What is PrizePicks.com?

PrizePicks is a Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) platform. What makes it different from other sites of this kind is that firstly, the site has not made the transition to offering real action sports contests, focusing on the fantasy aspect. It also offers fantasy points. This means that unlike other DFS sites which might give traditional props options (i.e. a player goes over/under a certain number of touchdowns), PrizePicks sets a fantasy points line instead. All the users of PrizePicks can then analyze this specific scoring system in order to make a decision on whether the chosen player will actually go over or under.

Prize Picks is the third iteration of what has now become a successful platform. PrizePicks initially started life as SidePrize, a site that enabled players to pit their fantasy teams against one another. The stakes could be raised each week by players making careful, skilled side entries potentially providing a greater return on their DFS experience.

The site later changed and expanded into PredictPicks, the aim of which was creating the most simplistic, fast-paced setup of any DFS site. After developing its current style of fantasy sports contests, it became Prize Picks.

PrizePicks Software

Prize Picks uses its own software in order to create the game interface. As we mentioned before, the site offers a simplistic setup meaning that it’s neither flashy nor gimmicky. This is a good thing. The interface is straightforward, easy and intuitive to use. Pick your sport from the main menu, pick your players and choose your over/under on the fantasy point projection, that’s all there is to it.

Rules and scoring for each of the sports are also clearly laid out, and there is a neat and simple personal dashboard that gives you a clear overview of your contests, wins and losses. The one thing that could be improved is the FAQ section. At present, it is a bit muddled and at first glance it can be difficult to find the information you’re looking for, since the questions aren’t clearly separated from the answers.

PrizePicks app

PrizePicks is also available via both Android and iOS devices. At the bottom of the main page you can find links to each individual app download, but you can also access the site through the mobile web version if you don’t want to download an app. Since the desktop interface is already so clean and simple, not much has changed as it has been adapted for mobile devices. You’ll recognize the layout and find the menus and options in the same places. Whether using the app or the mobile version of the site, you will have access to the same functions and features such as banking, support and contests.

PrizePicks game offerings

If we haven’t already said it, we’ll say it again — PrizePicks is incredibly simple. There is actually only a single game offering available to players, though it is offered for a wide range of sports and different leagues and events.

What you need to do first is choose a sport (or more specifically, a league or event). On offer you’ll find NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, as well as tennis, soccer, MMA and e-sports. Each of these are found in an easy-to-navigate menu at the top of the screen. Once you’ve picked your sport you’ll be presented with a board of players.

This board details the different player stats as well as giving their fantasy points line. What you then need to do is pick a minimum of two players (you can go up to four) from multiple teams and make your under/over selection for each of them. Then, you select your entry fee and the type of entry you’d like to make – Flex Play or Power Play. Depending on what type of entry you have chosen you will get different payouts.

Flex Play and Power Play

The Power Play option is the standard format given by PrizePicks. In this setup, if you get all of your picks correct then you will receive the full payout as follows:

  • 4 of 4 pays 10x the entry fee
  • 3 of 3 pays 5x the entry fee
  • 2 of 2 pays 2.5x the entry fee

A Flex Play is available for plays including three or more players and will result in a payout even if one of your picks is wrong, but it also means payouts are lower when all picks are correct. For instance, if you pick 4 out of 4 players correctly then you’ll get a 4x payout, 3 out of 4 is 1.5x, 3 out of 3 gives you 2x and finally 2 out of 3 gives you 1.25x.

By offering these two options to players, Prize Pick gives you the option to manage your risk. There are also contingencies in place for if a player you choose actually meets the prediction exactly. If any of the players match exactly they are simply removed from the selection so a 4-pick selection will simply revert to a 3-pick selection and be paid out accordingly. This is transferred down throughout each of the picks though if you’ve only chosen two players this is simply a refunded entry. The same applies if your selected players end up not playing.

Who can play on PrizePicks?

Currently there are 26 states where players can join in on the exciting DFS action. These include Texas, Utah, Florida, Colorado, Arkansas and Wyoming, to name but a few. With single-game sports contests only becoming legal recently in the United States, it is now up to each state to enact the specific legislation enabling it, and that means PrizePicks might expand to more states in the future.

Is PrizePicks legal and secure?

Prize Picks is totally legal in the states that it is able to operate in. It meets all jurisdictional requirements of these states. In addition to this it ensures that all of the events operate fairly and is part of the FSGA (Fantasy Sports and Gaming Association). The site is also secure and uses SSL encryption protocols so that your data is not passed on to any unauthorized third parties.

How to deposit and cash out

When it comes to making a deposit, nothing could be easier. PrizePicks offers players numerous different deposit methods to choose from. The most common ways to deposit are through PayPal or eCheck though you can use other options such as card payment methods as well.

PrizePicks accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. When it comes to payouts, these will appear on your account the morning after the contest and sports event has ended.

When it comes to withdrawals things work slightly differently to the normal online setup. There’s a maximum withdrawal value of $1,000 per week, which means you have to withdraw larger amounts in several installments. The minimum withdrawal amount is $30.

In order to make a withdrawal, you have to use the withdrawal request form where you fill out the value you’d like to receive. There’s also no picking the withdrawal method as it’s all done via eCheck regardless of the method you used to make a deposit in the first place. After the withdrawal request has been processed, payments can take between two to five business days to reach your account.

Customer support

At PrizePicks the main method of contact is through the online chat service. They’re quick to answer questions, which is nice. The staff is also very helpful and friendly which makes the entire interaction process a pleasurable one and leaves you with a good overall impression of the company.

It’s not entirely clear what the opening hours of the live chat are, though. However, when you open the live chat, there is an option to find an answer yourself. PrizePicks does have a collection of articles detailing how the site works and what to expect in other areas so you can simply use the text box and see if your question has already been answered by someone else. It can be a real time saver checking out this FAQ before trying to contact a staff member.

Final thoughts

If you’re looking for a fun, old-fashioned take on props contests, with a modern twist, you will feel right at home at PrizePicks. The whole site is designed with a focus on usability and simplicity, and it really is a breeze to use. It requires virtually no learning on your part, simply sign up, deposit and play. The fact that you don’t have to pick an entire team roster or a season-long entry is also a great help – just pick a couple of players you think will make an impact.
