Best NBA Picks for January 25, 2017

LeBron James ($10k DraftKings, $10.7k FanDuel)
It’s time for the King to put his money where his mouth is and carry the Cavs to a victory tonight. While they’re losing ways are creating some strife in their locker room, the Cavs Big 3 are producing some eye-popping numbers with hardly anyone else seeing any usage in that offense. LeBron is coming off a triple-double and his second performance of 60-plus DK points over his last 3 appearances, while he also draws a fantastic matchup tonight. The Kings rank 23rd in opponents FG shooting (.462%) and 24th in total rebounding and they just lost their starting SF for the year to a torn Achilles. James should dominate Rudy Gay’s backups tonight as he tries to right the ship for Cleveland.

Kyle Lowry ($8.8k DraftKings, $8.4k FanDuel)
The Spurs were just about the only team that I would’ve consider fading Lowry against when DeMar DeRozan is inactive, yet he still managed to meet value after getting off to a very hot start against San Antonio last night. Now he faces another stingy defense at the Grindhouse in Memphis, but his usage should remain sky high with his all-star teammate inactive once again. The Grizzlies give up an above average 45.12 FPPG to opposing PGs over the last month, whereas the Spurs gave up the fewest FPs to that position during that span, so you can continue to roll with Lowry at the very same price tag tonight.

Kevin Love ($7.8k DraftKings, $7.7k FanDuel)
All three members of the Cavs star trio came through with huge statistical lines on Monday and it still wasn’t enough to defeat a shorthanded Pelicans squad. And all three of them are great options tonight against the Kings 24th-ranked defense, while Love is the biggest bargain and a more reliable option than Kyrie Irving in a better matchup for his position. Sacramento gives up the eighth-most FPPG (43.79) and their rebounding woes should allow Love to post another double double after he already went for 15 points and 18 boards in a win over the Kings earlier this season.

Mid Tier DFS NBA Picks

Dion Waiters ($6.6k DraftKings, $6k FanDuel)
At the risk of chasing points with this play, you have to consider Waiters as a solid mid-tier option in a juicy matchup. Waiters just carried the Heat to a very surprising win over the Warriors and has actually been red hot for a few games, as he’s shooting 58% from the field while averaging 24.3 PPG over his last 4 appearances. Tonight he should lead Miami’s offense against a Nets team that allows the most PPG (114.9) in the NBA this year, plays at the fastest pace and coughs up the second-most FPPG (41.25) to opposing SGs. With Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson ruled out ahead of this contest, Waiters will carry the load at the 2 once again.

Jordan Clarkson ($4.9k DraftKings, $5.4k FanDuel)
The Lakers looked historically awful in their first game with D’Angelo Russell on the shelf, as they lost to a putrid Dallas squad by a franchise-worst margin of 49 points. Obviously, none of the Lakers rotational players had very good games on Sunday, but they should bounce back in a hurry against arguably the worst defensive team in the NBA. Portland has climbed from ranking 30th to 27th in defensive rating, while the Blazers give up an above average 44.02 FPPG and 24.92 PPG to opposing PGs this season. Clarkson is more of a hybrid guard who will probably still come off the bench despite Russell’s injury, but he’s bound to see increased usage and should be very productive in a track meet.

Bargain Tier DFS NBA Picks

Nerlens Noel ($4.3k DraftKings, $4.1k FanDuel)
He’ll be an extremely popular on the second half of a B2B set after carrying the Sixers to a victory over the Clippers with both Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor inactive on Tuesday. Embiid will not suit up tonight while Okafor could be limited if he’s active at all, so look for Noel to see heavy minutes along with fellow solid value plays in Dario Saric ($4.2k, $4.6k) and Richaun Holmes ($3.7k, $4.6k). Of course, Noel has the most upside of the bunch and he finally flashed his potential with his best line (19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals) of the season last night, which should earn him some more playing time regardless of Okafor’s status.

Ty Lawson ($4.1k DraftKings, $4.5k FanDuel)
Lawson continues to outplay Kings starting PG Darren Collison and he should earn more minutes sooner or later after doing things like producing 19 points over just 23 minutes in Sacramento’s win over Detroit on Monday night. The speedster represents a problem for Cleveland’s tanking defense, as the Cavs are coughing up the sixth-most FPPG (46.85) and third-most PPG (25.85) to opposing PGs over the last month. Lawson has exceeded value in 3 straight appearances since coming back from an ankle sprain and he’s still very much a bargain on DraftKings.

Norman Powell ($3.6k DraftKings, $3.5k FanDuel)
The fact that Powell doesn’t play heavy minutes every night is one of the more unjust circumstances in the NBA this year, because he’s a truly great young player. Yet he certainly lived up to his promise by dropping 16 points over 39 minutes in a loss to the Spurs last night and he should be locked into a starting role with DeRozan out for at least one more game. Tonight Powell draws another tough matchup at Memphis, but the Grizzlies are giving up the eighth-most PPG (23.98) to opposing SGs over the last month and he’s obviously dirt cheap on both main DFS sites.

If, Then Player

If Anthony Davis sounds iffy to play tonight, Terrence Jones and Jrue Holiday will see a huge boost in usage. Tyreke Evans status is also critical for Holiday’s prospects.
