Best NBA Picks for January 16, 2017

Giannis Antetokounmpo ($10.5k DraftKings, $10.3k FanDuel)
The Greek Freak returned from an illness to produce 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in a solid performance against Miami and proceeded to blow up for 33 points and 57.6 FD points against a Hawks team that had his number earlier this season. Antetokounmpo is bringing new meaning to the term versatility and he’s finally eligible at SF on DraftKings, so he should easily set the pace for that position tonight. He’s facing a lowly 76ers team that lacks the personnel to contain elite wing players and Giannis averaged 17.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 5.3 APG and 4.3 STL/BLK per game over 3 meetings against the Sixers last season and he’s taken a huge leap forward as a true all-around player this year.

Nikola Jokic ($7.9k DraftKings, $8k FanDuel)
He’s officially no longer a mid-tier with his increasing price tag and tremendous upside, but Jokic is still worth a look as arguably the best center option on the board on Monday. The uber-talented young big man is handing out highlight-reel dimes while averaging 20.3 PPG, 9.7 RPG and 6.4 APG over his last 6 appearances and he faces a Magic team tonight that is vulnerable on the interior. Orlando is ranked 25th in total rebounding and coughs up the sixth-most FPPG (49.01) to opposing centers this season, so it’s hard to imagine Jokic slowing down in a plus matchup at home.

Mid Tier and Value NBA DFS Picks

Tyreke Evans ($5.4k DraftKings, $5.6k FanDuel)
Evans followed up his massive performance with Anthony Daivs out on Thursday with a very solid outing on Saturday, as he supplied 14 points and 6 assists over 22 minutes of action. It appears that the Pelicans coaching staff would like him in that 22-25 minute range and that the 28 minutes he played with Davis out last week was due to extenuating circumstances. Yet Evans is still worth a look in cash game formats as he prepares for a plus matchup against the Pacers 23rd-ranked scoring defense. He’s averaging 1.20 FPs per minute this season and posts a very high usage when he leads the second unit and The Brow gets a much-needed breather for New Orleans.

Tim Hardaway Jr. ($5k DraftKings, $4.7k FanDuel)
Hardaway nearly brought the Hawks back to defeat Boston on the road last Friday with a tremendous fourth quarter and he’s been extremely productive over his last 5 appearances since Kyle Korver was shipped out of Atlanta. While he didn’t post great numbers last night against a tough Bucks defense, he’ll be chomping at the bit to produce tonight against his former team at Madsion Square Garden. The Knicks are coughing up the second-most FPPG (42.1) to opposing SGs over the last month and Hardaway is certainly capable of burning their struggling defense in the world’s most famous arena.

Evan Turner ($4.3k DraftKings, $4.4k FanDuel)
Turner remains relatively cheap on both main DFS sites despite his consistent production. He’s averaging 9.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG and 4.7 APG over his last 6 appearances and is sporting a 33.8% Assist Rate over his last 4 appearances and continues to pace the Blazers capable offense when he comes off the bench as a point forward. Maurice Harkless (ankle) could miss another game for Portland, opening up more guaranteed playing time for Turner, and his stock would also rise if Otto Porter (hip) is unable to suit up for a Wizards team that coughs up the ninth-most FPPG (39.93) to opposing SFs even with their starting 3 man active over the last month.

Mindaugas Kuzminskas ($3.4k DraftKings, $3.9k FanDuel)
With Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) extremely doubtful to suit up tonight, several big men will be asked to step up in the Knicks rotation. Underwhelming PF Lance Thomas (concussion) isn’t expected to play either, so back ups such as Guillermo Hernangomez and Kuzminskas will get plenty of opportunities to shine. The fan favorite, “Kuz” went for a career-high 19 points and 32.5 DK points (31.3 FD points) In a win over the Bulls last Thursday and followed that up by meeting value in a blowout loss to the Raptors on Sunday. Tonight he’ll face a Hawks defense that’s struggling lately and ranks 20th in opponents 3PT shooting (.359%) while Kuz is shooting 38% from deep this year and averaging 0.85 FPs per minute when Porzingis is off the floor.

If, Then Player

If Evan Fournier (foot) misses another game tonight for the Magic, Jodie Meeks would emerge as a great value play to deploy against the fast-paced Nuggets. Elfrid Payton would also become a worthwhile GPP option if Fournier is out and Aaron Gordon would see a slight bump to his already solid floor-ceiling combination.
