Week 9 of the NFL season is here and we now have a decent amount of data to work with as we try and figure out what defenses to pick on when it comes to putting together our stacks. The obvious stacks are the QBs-WRs; however there are a few others that we get to take a look at. Let’s take a look at who we should be looking at to pair together this weekend.
QB/WR Stacks
The number 1 stack this weekend comes from Green Bay as Aaron Rodgers-Any of his WR’s are going to be very popular, especially if both Cobb and Montgomery play. Right now I am going to lean Davante Adams as the injuries concern me some and Nelson just is not 100%. I will certainly have a number of stacks of the GB passing offense. If everybody is active I will rank Rodgers’ options as Adams, Cobb, Montgomery and Nelson.
My next comes from the same game as I am definitely interested in Andrew Luck-Donte Moncrief. Most people will automatically look at TY Hilton and while I think he is a solid GPP play, his hamstring has me worried a bit too much.
When it comes to my third stack, I know we prefer to target the Saints offense when they are at home, however I really like this spot against a 49er team that some consider being the worst team in the NFL. My Saints pass game pairing of Drew Brees-Michael Thomas is one that I think will go slightly under owned and I am completely fine with that. Thomas has pushed his way to the top of my Saints WR rankings as I love his ability. I think all 3 guys make solid GPP options this weekend.
My last combination is one that I think will go over looked thanks to the love for the team’s RB. I love Dak Prescott-Dez Bryant this weekend as they looked good last week and they go on the road this weekend. Everybody loves Elliott and for great reason against a very bad Cleveland defense, so that tells me Dak and Dez will go overlooked.
RB/DEF Stacks
This weekend’s games leave a lot to be desired in terms of Defenses. I swear I say it every week; however it is getting harder and harder to pin point stacks for this category. I had to stretch my way beyond just two and managed to come up with four that I am going to have pieces of in GPPs. The first one I kind of eluded to earlier as Ezekial Elliott-Dallas are in excellent spots. We know the Browns aren’t very good so we expect game flow to lead to a lot of Elliott runs and even more Browns’ passes in this one.
My second one is going to be the highest owned as it looks like it is down to Charcandrick West in Kansas City this weekend. As of writing this on Thursday night, Spencer Ware has not passed the concussion protocol so I expect to be the entire West this weekend. Kansas City should be the top D on the weekend thanks to facing a bad Jaguars offense, at home.
I will lump my last two together as I think they are sneaky GPP plays. The two stacks are Melvin Gordon-San Diego and Jay Ajayi-Miami. I really like the way the SD D is playing and Gordon continues to put up fantasy points. Ajayi has been a beast lately and while the Miami D isn’t anything special, they do get to take on a Jets offense that can turn the ball over regularly.
Returner/DEF Stacks
My top three combos are all definitely in play this weekend as I really like the spots they are in and I will go on a limb and say that one of the three wins somebody a GPP this weekend. My first one is Adam Thielen-Minnesota, which depends on the health of Marcus Sherels. Sherels missed last week’s game and Thielen has been somewhat active on the offensive side of the ball. My favorite combination is Tyreek Hill-Kansas City as I already talked about the KC defense and we need to pay attention to how dangerous Hill is with the ball. He is seeing 30-40% of the snaps on offense, however those snaps paint a false picture as when he is on the field and Andy Reid is designing ways to get him involved. Hill is also leading the NFL in PR yardage and has over 200 yards on KR’s. The last three I am going to mention are ones that really do not need an explanation at this point as Antonio Brown-Pittsburgh, Tavon Austin-LA and Darren Sproles-Philadelphia are all in positive spots this weekend.
There you have it for Week 9, a list of my favorite stacking options. Make sure you let me know how you feel about my article in the comments below or on Twitter. Make sure to let me know how terrible I am, however if you do that be ready for me to point out when I nailed it! Best of luck and may your accounts be plentiful come Tuesday morning!
