We are through a quarter of the NFL season and has the time flown by to this point. Looking back at last week and I definitely swung and missed quite a bit, so let’s see if I can fix that this week!
QB/WR Stacks
I am looking at giving you guys two stacks that should be pretty highly owned; along with two stacks that I think make great tournament plays. The first obvious stack is going to be Tom Brady-Julian Edelman. Brady returns from his suspension and the consensus is that the Patriots are going to make a statement. Tom will be very popular and for great reason, so I just can’t see myself fading him and will look to see Edelman finally get right now that Brady is back.
You might think I am going to go with Big Ben and Antonio Brown, however I am looking at an Aaron Rodgers-Jordy Nelson combination on Sunday Night Football. Jordy is quietly having a solid start to the season and we saw the GB passing game get on track a bit in week 3. Coming off of a bye, I think the Packers come out and make a statement. I am going to be all over the Bears offense this week, which makes me sound like I need to be checked out.
I love Brian Hoyer’s price along with the fact he has gone for over 300 yards and 2 TD’s in both games he has started so far. Most people will pair him with Jeffery or even Zach Miller; however I am going with Eddie Royal as the Bears have lost Kevin White for what could be the season. My last combination is definitely GPP only as Ryan Fitzpatrick has been extremely bad of late for the Jets. I will be pairing him with Brandon Marshall as I expect the Jets to have to play catch up this weekend.
RB/DEF Stacks
The RB-DEF stack has been a lot tougher to pin point this season than in years past and while there are a couple of stud RB’s in play this week, there are also a few that are far from studs who could help us out in a GPP format. The two stud backs are Todd Gurley and Le’Veon Bell. The Gurley-LA combo might be my favorite GPP option as they take on a Bills team that is in a huge let down situation after their big win against NE.
I know I mentioned the Jets passing offense above, however we have to be fair and point out that Fitzpatrick has thrown 9 INT’s over the last two weeks. For that reason, Bell-Pittsburgh could be an ideal pairing. I really like the way Jerrick McKinnon ran the ball last weekend, so I believe the McKinnon-Minnesota pairing should be considered, especially for cash. The Houston offense can certainly be turnover prone and we already know how dangerous the Viking D has been.
My last two combos are interesting for different reasons as I think L.Blount-NE could certainly be the highest scoring combo; however I think there is also a chance that NE throws the ball all over the field. I also really like Terrence West-Baltimore as they get to take on Kirk Cousins at home. We know that Cousins is capable of turning the ball over a few times a game and West has his big opportunity to cement himself as the lead back in Baltimore.
Returner/DEF Stacks
My number 1 choice this week (My man Lockett and the Seahawks are on a bye) is going to be Tavon Austin-LA as this sets up to be a great spot and we know Austin is going to see 10+ opportunities to touch the football. My next combination shouldn’t be too far behind the first as Darren Sproles-Philadelphia stand out to me, coming off of a bye. The next three I am going to list are definitely GPP only combinations as Eddie Royal-Chicago, Jalen Richard-Oakland and Cordarrelle Patterson-Minnesota each have some positives working their favor. Royal has been really good for the Bears and has a PR for a TD already and while the Bears D probably gives up a decent amount of points, they do get to face a turnover prone Luck while also taking on a pretty bad offensive line. Richard is in play due to the news that recently came out stating that Latavius Murray is most likely going to miss this weekend’s game. While I think Washington is going to get the most carries, we could see Richard get 8-10 touches on offense plus possibly return a kick to the house. I am a Viking fan through and through so take this with a grain of salt, however Patterson was involved in the offense last week and it appears that they might try to get him more and more involved without AP. If that is the case, we know how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands.
There you have it for Week 5, a list of my favorite stacking options. Make sure you let me know how you feel about my article in the comments below or on Twitter. Make sure to let me know how terrible I am, however if you do that be ready for me to point out when I nailed it! Best of luck and may your accounts be plentiful come Tuesday morning!
