Is it really week 6 already? This season is flying by and it’s kind of sad to think about the fact that we are crossing over one-third of the regular season. When it comes to this week’s stacking options, there are a few that are pretty much obvious plays, but thankfully there are some under the radar type options that might come in handy should you decide to fade the Return of Deflategate game.
Looking back at Week 5 has me a little torn as I seemed to miss on some spots but the ones that I did hit, hit some serious, bat-flipping, bombs. Looking back at my QB/WR stacks has me thinking my look at the San Diego pass game as the top option worked out decently, however Allen really underwhelmed even though they basically were the number 1 owned combination. I definitely was right in bringing up Gates and he announced his return from his suspension with authority. I definitely missed on the Ryan/Jones combo as they really left a lot to be desired and the Falcons didn’t start putting up points until late and that was mostly thanks to Jacob Tamme and the Fantasy MVP that is Devonta Freeman. I think I hit pretty well on my third combo as the New England passing game is enjoying a great season and after a slow start last week, they definitely turned it on in the second half. I can’t seem to get the Green Bay passing game right as I had them as my #4 stack and they disappointed, aside from a long Rodgers to Jones touchdown. Rodgers saw his wicked home INT-less pass attempt streak come to an end. The stack that I told you would catch you off guard is what brought in a ton of money last weekend and I am glad I was all over this trio as Bortles/Robinson/Hurns really turned it on and put up a massive 84.02 points on DK.
When it comes to my RB/DEF stacks, I generally hit on them all as one side or the other made positive things happen. The top one being the aforementioned Devonta Freeman with his Falcons defense that really didn’t do much until a game clinching Pick-6 in OT. Dion Lewis is more of a WR playing RB as he is just electric in space and the Patriot defense didn’t disappoint but they didn’t go crazy either. Unfortunate weekend for Jamaal Charles as he suffered a torn ACL in a game that had him in a great spot to put up big time numbers. His defense managed a TD which helped attempt to make up for the early exit for Charles. My last RB/DEF combo definitely put up a solid line, especially for a couple of under owned options. Murray had his best game as an Eagle and the Eagles defense managed to force 4 turnovers and 5 sacks en route to an easy win.
The only Returner/Defense stack that was worth anything was the combination of David Johnson and Arizona as Johnson managed 2 short TD runs and the Cardinals defense forced 6 Lions’ turnovers. I really love Johnson as he is so electric but I may have to cut back with the return of Ellington as Johnson saw just 3 offensive touches. With all of that said, let’s take a look at week 6!
QB/WR Stacks
I talked about my #1 option a little bit early as the Patriots head to Indianapolis in what may be the biggest F-U game for the Patriots as they look to silence the Deflate Gate talk from last postseason. At this point even though he is listed as a RB on sites and that is his true position, I am going to include Dion Lewis in this stack category. He is just extremely dangerous and that receiving TD he scored last week was ridiculous. Tom Brady/Dion Lewis/Julian Edelman/Rob Gronkowski is a 4 some that I would not want to mess with on the football field, but it IS a 4-some that I want all of this weekend for DFS purposes. Obviously it’s not beneficial to stack all 4 in a lineup, however if there were any game in a season to do it, this might be it. I think Gronk is the one that I want to pair with Brady first as I think he is the one that takes things a little more personal than the others and may want to make the Colts eat their words/crying. Basically I want to take each combination possible in a GPP, just so I get the right amount of exposure. With that said, this stack is going to be supremely popular. With my second stack I am going to go back to Jacksonville as I really love how dangerous this passing game is.
Blake Bortles/Allen Robinson/Allen Hurns is a trio that I never thought I would write so much about this season, however they just continue to put up points. I know Bortles is dealing with a shoulder thing and Hurns is always banged up, but these guys come to play on weekends and their prices are still very juicy around the industry.
My third stack has me taking one last trip to Green Bay to look at Aaron Rodgers/Randall Cobb this weekend as the Chargers are traveling off of a tough Monday night loss at home and I expect Rodgers to be a little disappointed with his personal performance last weekend. James Jones is certainly usable as well, but I want Rodgers and Cobb this weekend. Number 4 on my list this weekend is Carson Palmer/Larry Fitzgerald as they travel east to Pittsburgh to take on a weak Steelers secondary that is on a short week. Its a home coming of sorts for Fitzgerald as he went to college at Pittsburgh and I am sure he will have some friends in the stands. As what has become the usual, with my 5th stack I am going a little off the wall as I am going to look to target Brian Hoyer/DeAndre Hopkins in a game that I think could be full of fantasy goodness as my number 2 stack is playing opposite of the Texans. Hopkins is a target monster and Hoyer looked really good when he entered the game last Thursday, which brings me to another point. The Texans had a few extra days off to prepare for this game.
RB/DEF Stacks
I am torn between a couple of combinations for my top spot, but I am going to lean towards Adrian Peterson/Minnesota as they get to take on a struggling Chiefs offense in Minnesota. The Chiefs have a solid run D, however Peterson has been playing like he never missed a snap. I think the Chiefs offense could take a step back as they figure out life without Charles and what better week to take advantage of that than the week immediately after the injury. I think the next one might catch people off guard, however I really like the spot that Chris Ivory/New York Jets are in as they take on the Redskins, returning from their bye week. Ivory, when healthy, has been extremely strong this season and he gets to take on a Redskins defense that I think has over achieved and are coming off being gashed in the 4th quarter by Freeman and the Falcons. The Jets get to take on the turnover machine that is Kirk Cousins and there is talk that Matt Jones could miss this game for the Redskins.
My third choice is one that I am a little leery on, however I love the spot the defense is in as I think Eddie Lacy/Green Bay could be up for a huge game. The Chargers run D has been extremely generous this season and their o-line has been atrocious which matches up extremely well here as we are waiting for Lacy to bust out, while the GB defense has lead the NFL in sacks. My next one may shock you even more as I think Gio Bernard/Cincinnati are a sneaky combination against the banged up Buffalo Bills. This is more of a hunch as Buffalo boasts a very strong run defense, however I think Cincy gets the lead early and relies on their backs to finish it up. Bernard has been out snapping Jeremy Hill rather significantly.
Returner/DEF Stacks
Quite honestly this one is just so tough to figure out. I think a combination like Jarvis Landry/Miami could put up a pretty nice stat line as Miami is coming off of a bye and are taking on a mediocre Titans team. Landry is a target monster on offense and is an extremely dangerous punt returner. I think my boy up in Seattle, Tyler Lockett and the Seattle defense could be an interesting option at home against an over achieving Panthers offense. I will finish this section off with Darren Sproles/Philadelphia as its a Monday night game, which seems to be when Sproles is at his best. He seems to have disappeared on the offensive side of the ball recently, but I would not be surprised to see him worked more into the game plan. The defense gets to take on Eli Manning, who may be down 1, 2 or even 3 of his receivers in this game.
I want to finish this out with an interesting pairing idea on FD. There is an interesting correlation between a K and his team’s DEF as the turnovers a defense generates leads to more possessions which then leads to more kick attempts, whether it be extra points or field goals. With that said, I think you can look to pair the kickers of the top defenses this weekend and be in a great spot. The defenses I love this weekend are the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and the Seattle Seahawks.
As always, best of luck this weekend and please hit me up via twitter or below in the comments section. Let me know how I helped you or even how listening to me cost you. I’d like to be held accountable for my choices!
