DFS PGA TARGETS: THE TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

DFS PGA Targets

Well, Ladies & Gents, the Tour Championship is finally upon us!!! I can honestly say it has been a pleasure talking fantasy golf this season and hopefully we can finish this season strong and spark those bankrolls for the new golf season quickly approaching.

To recap last week’s craziness, Jason Day once again proved that he is playing out of his mind right now and nobody can keep up with him. I paired multiple lineups with Day and Berger but unfortunately, when I watched Furyk start shaking hands with his group I knew the worst was coming. That’s right, Furyk’s WD sank most of my lineups even though I had the winner and solo second finish in my lineups. That’s the beauty of DFS golf I suppose.

Anyway, the Tour Championship will be hosted at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The top 30 golfers in Fedex points will battle at this beautiful par 70 course that measures over 7,300 yards. I don’t expect for this event to have as many low scores as last week as the course should play much tougher. That being said, it will be similar to last week in that you will need all 6 golfers in the top 15 and the event’s winner all on your roster to have a shot at some top GPP finishes this week.

Key Stats:

GIR Percentage

Par 3 Scoring

Par 4 Scoring

As always, SG:T2G, SG:Putting, and Course History will all be sprinkled in to help us figure out which golfers to target from week to week.

$TUD PLAYS:

Jason Day

$12,500 (DraftKings)

Odds To Win: 3.5-1

Expected Ownership: 18.2%

I could literally cut and paste the write up of Jason in last week’s column because it applies just the same this week. What really surprised me last week is that his ownership was just around 13% which was absolutely nuts. Much of that had to do with the price with such a small field. I know more people will roster him after yet another win but I am hopeful that his price will keep his ownership under 20% once again in an even smaller field. 4 wins in last 6 starts is pretty hard to argue with.

Rory Mcllroy

$11,700 (DraftKings)

Odds To Win: 6.5-1

Expected Ownership: 14.7%

Rory proved last week that he is still amongst the greatest with a T4 finish last week at the BMW Championship. This was his first top 5 finish since his win at the Wells Fargo in May. That being said, Mcllroy’s length should help give him an advantage this week with many long par 4s. He also had a T2 here last year after a disappointing final round. Rory is the only other golfer not named Day that I would advise to be used as an anchor this week.

VALUE PLAYS:

Hideki Matsuyama

$8000 (DraftKings)

Odds To Win: 33-1

Expected Ownership: 15.1%

It’s the last event of this season so I have to recommend one of my favorite golfers who has been one of my go to guys all season long. Matsuyama has 3 straight top 25 finishes and is coming off a T7 last week so it would seem he has regained his excellent form. He also sets up nice this week as he is top 20 in GIR Percentage, and top 10 in SG:T2G, Par 4 Scoring, and Birdie Average. Make sure he is on your radar this week.

Paul Casey

$7500 (DraftKings)

Odds To Win: 50-1

Expected Ownership: 14.4%

Casey is coming off a T23 last week and is in another good spot this week. Casey is ranked 4th in GIR Percentage, 9th in SG:T2G, and 11th in Par 4 Scoring. He also has the length that is important this week as he is ranked 10th in Total Driving. At his price, you can’t ask for much more.

Danny Lee

$7000 (DraftKings)

Odds To Win: 100-1

Expected Ownership: 12.1%

Danny Lee has almost everything you look for with this course. He is a great putter as he is ranked top 25 in SG:Putting. He is also a par 3 specialist, ranked 3rd in Par 3 scoring. What he lacks for in length, he makes up for with his strong iron game. He ranks 26th in Par 4 scoring and ranks high in numerous different approach categories. Not to mention, he makes a lot of birdies which is obviously a good thing for DraftKings purposes…

Unfortunately, I can’t list Berger as a punt play this week because there really is no punt play this week with such a small field and this pricing. That being said, T12 and a solo second for our boy and he is the only rookie in this field!

Guys I’m Fading: Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker

Keep in mind, with such a small field it is hard to fade any golfer. That being said, Spieth and Koepka should be 2 of the highest owned golfers that I can see not being worth the roster spot. It should set you up in good spots in GPPs if you are able to avoid a highly owned golfer that ends up laying an egg like Furyk last week. And regardless of Snedeker’s ownership, he is in my doghouse until further notice.

My Winner: Jason Day…Shocker I know but the way he is playing right now, it would be foolish to bet against him.

Best of luck this week, I hope you win all the moneys and I’ll see you next season!!!
