Strengths

The Colts secondary had elite play from Vontae Davis and free safety Mike Adams. Vontae Davis can make a case for the best cornerback in the game and there has been talk that he could spend more time in shadow coverage in 2015. He should be coming into his prime at age 27 and he should be ready to take on more shadow responsibility early in the season. Mike Adams was able to have his best season at age 34. If he can continue his stellar play for one more season then the back end of this unit should be fine with him manning the free safety position.

Weaknesses

Greg Toler is expected to handle the starting corner position opposite Vontae Davis but he is currently listed as week to week with a neck injury. In his place the Colts are expected to start Darius Butler who is an adequate slot corner but could struggle on the outside in the starting role. This will be a situation to monitor early on because if Toler misses any significant time the Colts schedule starts to get tough against this unit starting in week 6.

Overall Outlook

This will be a very interesting unit to watch early on. If Vontae Davis looks to be playing more shadow corner and Greg Toler’s injury stretches on then we have some potential to target opposing teams # 2 receivers against this Colts secondary. Their matchups early on would not scare anyone however but it will be worth monitoring how much time Vontae spends on Sammy Watkins in week 1. It will be important to figure out how this defensive scheme has changed from last year in order to correctly identify the optimal DFS plays in the middle part of their schedule.
