Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster.

Injuries play a huge role in NBA DFS on a nightly basis. Value plays on the various daily fantasy sites can arise at a moment’s notice, so always, always check the starting lineups and injury news right before tipoff.

The Full Roster contests on FanDuel include a new scoring system in which the lowest score of the nine selected players is dropped, allowing users to take more risks with a punt play or two. Then, DraftKings has brought back its late swap for NBA contests.

NBA DFS Top Plays for March 14, 2019

Best Guards for March 14, 2019

Donovan Mitchell vs. MIN ($8.3k DraftKings, $9.8k FanDuel)

You may be able to get away with going cheap across the board at guard tonight, but if you want to pay up for a stud with tremendous per-dollar upside, consider Donovan Mitchell. The gifted scorer has seen a huge uptick in usage rate (36.8%) over his last five appearances with Ricky Rubio (hip) hobbled. Mitchell faces a Wolves team that gives up the fifth-most FPPG (36.81) and PPG (22.06) to SGs this season. He’s averaging 26.3 PPG and 7 APG over three meetings with Minnesota and averages 24.4 PPG with a 32.3% usage rate at home this season.

Andrew Wiggins @ UTA ($5.9k DraftKings, $6.3k FanDuel)

He was considered likely to play Tuesday against the Nuggets, but Andrew Wiggins ultimately sat that game out to rest his ailing thigh. If he’s active tonight and Jeff Teague (foot) and/or Derrick Rose (elbow) remain out, Wiggins should see a significant increase in ball-handling duties. Tyus Jones ($4.2k, $4.4k) is in line to start at PG if that’s the scenario, but he owns a modest 15.8% usage rate (1.8% increase) when those guards are off the floor. Wiggins sees a 3.7% increase and trails only Karl-Anthony Towns with a 28.6% usage rate when Teague/Rose sit.  Wiggins is averaging 25 PPG and is 7-for-17 from downtown over three meetings with the Jazz this season, and will be utilized even more if KAT is at all limited by his sore knee.

Jalen Brunson @ DEN ($5.3k DraftKings, $5.9k FanDuel)

While Luka Doncic (knee) played Tuesday, the rookie sensation struggled on 5-for-17 FG shooting and admitted that he’s far from 100 percent. In stepped fellow rookie Jalen Brunson with the best game of his career (34 points, 12-for-16 from the field) against a solid Spurs defense. The Nuggets are giving up the second-most FPPG (45.46) to PGs over the last 14 days and yield the fifth-highest shooting percentage (43.4%) to the position this season. Brunson is now in a full-time role with 30-plus minutes in four straight appearances and the seasoned Villanova product is averaging 14.9 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per 36 minutes.

Brandon Knight @ ORL ($3.5k DraftKings, $4.3k FanDuel)

Here is a true punt play to consider if you want to save up for elite options at forward and center. Brandon Knight is averaging 1.06 FPs per minute and playing 25.3 MPG over his last three appearances for the hapless Cavs. He’s exceeded value in each of those contests and faces a Magic squad that ranks 20th in DvP against opposing PGs. A blowout loss is always possible the way the Cavs have struggled lately and Knight could thrive in garbage time against a superior Orlando team.

Other guards to consider: Kyrie Irving, Buddy Hield, Rajon Rondo, Jamal Murray, Collin Sexton, Jaylen Brown, Tyus Jones, Monte Morris

Best Forwards for March 14, 2019

Paul George @ IND ($9.7k DraftKings, $10.0k FanDuel)

Despite drawing loads of defensive attention from the Jazz on Monday, Paul George still met value at his new price point on DraftKings. He should have more success tonight in a revenge spot at Indiana. The Pacers defense was stellar throughout the first half of the season, but is yielding a mediocre 109.5 PPG since the ASB. Indy is weaker on the wing with Victor Oladipo (quad) and Tyreke Evans (ankle) out, leaving slow-footed Bojan Bogdanovic or natural PF Thaddeus Young to try and check George. You know which players are going to do the heavy lifting for the Thunder (-1.5), which is a slight favorite in a game with a 221.5-point Over/Under.

Jayson Tatum vs. SAC ($5.7k DraftKings, $6.7k FanDuel)

Jayson Tatum is a relative bargain as he plans to make his return from a shoulder injury tonight. The Kings lead the NBA in pace and Tatum thrives in the open floor as one of the most gifted finishers in the league. He scored 24 points on 8-for-17 FG shooting during a road win at Sacramento last week and should see more playing time if Marcus Smart (illness) is unable to suit up tonight. With a 23% usage rate  at TD Garden, Tatum is a locked-in Cash play against a Kings team that ranks 23rd in DvP against SFs this season.

Maxi Kleber @ DEN ($3.7k DraftKings, $3.9k FanDuel)

A quiet showing against the Spurs keeps Maxi Kleber extremely affordable on DraftKings and FanDuel. The talented young forward is bound to see more usage going forward with Doncic hobbled and he draws a much better matchup tonight. Denver coughs up the third-most FPPG (45.88) and second-most PPG (22.68) to opposing PFs this season. Kleber has been used situationally to match up with small-ball teams such as the Rockets, and he posted a double double over 31 minutes in that matchup. Denver also runs a spread style with Paul Millsap creating on the wing, which should lead Mavs HC Rick Carlisle to roll with the versatile PF tonight.

Other forwards to consider: LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Pascal Siakam, Aaron Gordon, Domantas Sabonis, Kyle Kuzma, Jae Crowder, Jonathan Isaac, Royce O’Neale

Best Centers for March 14, 2019

Al Horford vs. SAC ($6.3k DraftKings, $6.9k FanDuel)

The Celtics fell flat in the final game of their west-coast road trip, allowing 140 points in a blowout loss at the Clippers. When Boston is down, their most experienced leader usually picks the team up. Al Horford should be fired up tonight in front of the crowd at TD Garden, where he averages 13.9 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 4.4 APG, and shoots 58% from the floor. He went for 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in a narrow win at Sacramento last week. That’s not surprising considering the Kings rank 23rd in opponents 2-point shooting (.533%) and cough up the second-most RPG (48.6) this season.

Marc Gasol vs. LAL ($5.9k DraftKings, $6.5k FanDuel)

Marc Gasol should benefit most directly from Serge Ibaka‘s three-game suspension. The new acquisition is only seeing 22.8 MPG with the Raptors, but he’s averaging 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 2.8 STL/BLK per 36 minutes. Gasol averages 0.19 more FPs per minute (1.29) when Ibaka and Kyle Lowry (ankle) are off the floor this season. You always have to monitor the status of Kawhi Leonard as well, since he’s liable to sit out any matchup against a tanking opponent. Even if Lowry and Leonard are active, Gasol should eat against a Lakers team that yields the second-most RPG (17.33) and third-most PPG (23.93) to opposing centers over the last 14 days.

Other centers to consider: Nikola Jokic, Kevin Love, Steven Adams
