NJ Online Sportsbooks

Since PASPA was overturned last May, New Jersey has been the clear leader of the new wave of sports betting states. So, it’s no surprise that online sportsbooks continue to pop up in the Garden State.

In fact, five different online sportsbooks have made their debuts in the last three months. There are now three more online sportsbooks in the state than retail locations.

Below you’ll find a list of the new mobile betting sites in NJ and what each offers in an increasingly competitive market.

The newest online sportsbooks in New Jersey

PointsBet was the first company of the most recent wave to launch. The Australian company debuted its New Jersey offering on Dec. 11.

PointsBet’s chief selling point is its signature product: points betting. Essentially, points betting rewards players not only for selecting the correct team but also for the degree to which their selection was correct.

In other words, a bet that the favorite beats the 10 point spread would pay more if the favorite wins by 20 than by 12. In most other situations, the actual margin of victory’s relationship to the spread is irrelevant to the bet.

Since its launch, PointsBet has also distinguished itself as a site intent on ingratiating itself to American players. Several last-second sports victories have prompted the site to issue compensatory bets or other refunds to players after the fact.

Golden Nugget

Not to be outdone by its licensing partner, Golden Nugget launched its online sportsbook on Feb. 19. The sportsbook debuted as an integrated portion of Golden Nugget’s online casino.

This integration is crucial. Golden Nugget Online is the most successful online casino in New Jersey, so the ease that its swaths of players will have in transitioning over to sports betting likely spells good things for the fledgling sportsbook.

As with other sportsbooks on the Nugget’s license, bettors cannot wager on NBA games due to Golden Nugget owner Tilman Fertitta‘s ownership of the Houston Rockets. However, bettors on Golden Nugget Online Sportsbook are immediately able to earn points in the Golden Rewards program with their wagering.

Online sports betting is clearly the way of the future. Online sports bets outnumber retail wagers in New Jersey by a 3 to 1 ratio.

So, it’s no surprise that new books are popping up. However, the wide selection means that bettors can take their time and find the one that works best for them.

Hard Rock

Hard Rock Atlantic City launched its retail and online sportsbooks on the very same day. The Jan. 26 debuts allowed one of the newest AC casinos to participate in Super Bowl wagering.

The sportsbook is the product of Gaming Innovation Group (GiG). GiG also powers Hard Rock’s online casino offering.

It’s too early to tell how well the fledgling book is performing in the crowded market. However, at least HRAC is on the map now.

Resorts Atlantic City debuted its sportsbook mere days after Hard Rock, and similarly, in time for the Super Bowl. The Big Game undoubtedly provided inspiration to the site’s developers.

Resorts was designed by SBTech. However, this app is always going to live in the shadow of its license mate, DraftKings.

Unfortunately, the new app isn’t really in the same league. It’s pretty standard fare, and the site has a decent-sized learning curve for new players.

There really isn’t much in the way of instruction or help for visitors. Nevertheless, the site is open for business.

BetAmerica launched in New Jersey on Feb. 2. The new sportsbook is an SBTech product and is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated.

Churchill Downs Incorporated, of course, is the company behind the world-famous racetrack in Kentucky. In fact, most gambling in the Bluegrass State occurs through Churchill Downs products, either at the racetrack itself, or through its Twin Spires online racebook.

The New Jersey sportsbook itself is a comprehensive book that offers wagering on a wide variety of events. However, due to its licensing through Golden Nugget, BetAmerica is unable to offer NBA game wagering.
