NHL DFS Tournaments
NHL DFS Centers
Jack Eichel vs. FLA ($8.0 DK / $7.9 FD)
Jack Eichel’s 148 shots on goal rank second, and his 25 points in the last 30 days are two behind the league lead over that span. He comes into tonight’s game with nine goals and 17 points in his last nine outings, plus seven multi-point games in that time. He’ll come with a high ownership percentage in tournaments, but he’s a strong cash play. Florida, tonight’s opponent, has allowed the fourth-most goals per game this season, and over the last 30 days, they are giving up the third-most high danger scoring chances at 5 on 5, per hour.
Aleksander Barkov @ BUF ($6.6 DK / $7.6 FD)
The Buffalo Sabres rank inside the top 10 when it comes to shots against, scoring chances against, and high danger scoring chances against over the past month. All account for 5 on 5 play, per 60 minutes. Aleksander Barkov leads all forwards in ice time per game (23:12), and in the last 30 days, he’s averaging 23:56 per game. He has 14 goals (7 in his last 10) and 31 points in 31 games this season.
Others to consider: Connor McDavid, John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Brayden Point, Dylan Larkin, Ryan Getzlaf, Mark Scheifele, Claude Giroux, Steven Stamkos, Bryan Little, Mika Zibanejad, Sean Couturier, Ryan Johansen
NHL DFS Wingers
Ondrej Kase @ NYR ($5.4 DK / $4.6 FD)
Ondrej Kase scored his ninth goal of the season in last night’s 4-2 Anaheim win in Pittsburgh. Kase is well on his way to proving last year’s 20 goals as a sophomore was no fluke. He has 15 points and 60 shots in 17 games this season. The Ducks’ winger has six goals, eight points, and 26 shots in his past six games. The New York Rangers have allowed the seventh-most goals per game, and they are giving up the second-most high danger scoring chances at 5 on 5, per 60 minutes over the last month. On top of that, they are allowing the most scoring chances at 5 on 5, over the last 30 days.
Alex Chiasson vs. STL ($4.9 DK / $4.9 FD)
Alex Chiasson continues to skate on the Oilers’ top line with Connor McDavid. He continues to produce as well. Chiasson has goals in three straight and six points over his last six contests. He’s averaging 16 minutes per game but has played at least 18 minutes in seven straight games.
Tyler Johnson @ VAN ($5.8 DK / $5.8 FD)
Tyler Johnson has 14 goals and 24 points in 33 games this season, and he’ll continue putting up points as long as he’s healthy. Johnson is a three-time 20-goal scorer (29 career high), and he had 72 points in 77 games in 2014-15. His linemate then and now is Nikita Kucherov, who scored 65 points that year and has 48 points in 34 games this season. There’s no doubt Johnson is benefiting from playing with a guy like Kucherov, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. The price is right, as is the matchup against the Canucks tonight. Vancouver ranks fourth in scoring chances allowed at 5 on 5 over the last month while Tampa Bay ranks second in scoring chances for at 5 on 5 over that span.
Others to consider: Nikita Kucherov, Blake Wheeler, Jeff Skinner, Mitch Marner, Sam Reinhart, Jonathan Huberdeau, Travis Konecny, Ondrej Palat, Mats Zuccarello, Nino Niederreiter, Craig Smith, Gustav Nyquist
NHL DFS Defensemen
Shayne Gostisbehere vs. DET ($4.9 DK / $5.2 FD)
Shayne Gostisbehere has zero goals and only two assists in his last 15 games. He’s -12 over that span, and I’m starting to field questions on whether season-long owners should drop him. I don’t think he’ll be on anybody’s radar tonight, and the entire Flyers squad should be. They sit in last place in the Eastern Conference, but they fired their head coach Dave Hakstol yesterday. You usually see a spark in a team after a firing. Philadelphia and Detroit are playing with the highest goal total (6.5) of the night.
Rasmus Dahlin vs. FLA ($4.6 DK / $4.6 FD)
Rasmus Dahlin averaged 18:58 in ice time over 12 games in October, 19:54 in 15 November games, and he’s averaging 23:46 through seven games this month. Dahlin has now logged two games in December where he garnered 29:15 and 28:34 minutes. He has one goal and five points in his last two games, with two of them coming on the power play.
Others to consider: Roman Josi, Victor Hedman, Darnell Nurse, Rasmus Ristolainen, Jared Spurgeon, Josh Morrissey, Ryan Pulock, Nick Leddy, Hampus Lindholm, Neal Pionk, Trevor Daley
NHL DFS Goalies
Connor Hellebuyck @ LA ($7.9 DK / $8.6 FD)
Connor Hellebuyck has won six of his past seven starts despite allowing at least three goals in four of those wins. He allowed three combined goals in the other three outings, and that’s the kind of upside Hellebuyck has. The Jets’ 22 wins are the most in the Western Conference and the second most in the NHL. Hellebuyck may be the safest goalie on the board tonight despite some of the struggles. Only the Chicago Blackhawks have fewer wins than Los Angeles’ 11, and no team has fewer goals per game than the Kings’ 2.18.
Others to consider: Andrei Vasilevskiy, Frederik Andersen, Carter Hart (GPP)
