One hundred of the best daily fantasy sports players gathered in Las Vegas this weekend to take part in the largest guaranteed prize pool in daily tournament history. Ten million dollars guaranteed and the top three spots taking home 35% of the pool. First place is going home with the largest top pay out in daily fantasy sports history, $2 MILLION DOLLARS! This is the biggest tournament of the year and was exciting from start to finish. The player who took the early lead and lost it came back and won it in dominating fashion with a ZERO spot in his lineup. The top three spots were rustled around in the last ten minutes a few different times.
escot4 was the name floating around the room and the top of the board throughout most of the 1PM game slate. He was the only player to take a chance on Jeremy Hill and it was a great chance to take. Hill’s 27.7 points were enough to separate him from the pack as the early games went on. He eventually dropped down to 10th place as livestraddle landed in first as his Gronk, Douglas, Brown, and ODB, who had a three touchdown day and scored 36.3 points, put him in the lead. The 4PM games were starting and the standings held firm. livestraddle slowly lost his lead as sandstorm took it from him and battled back and forth with escot4 who came back to reclaim his lead for moments in and out. Manning finally hooked up with DT and escot4 took the lead again. Then Rivers hit Gates up for a TD as well. mdube16 climbed his way into the top three as well slipping Gates in there and the Seahawks defense and actually pushed livestraddle out of the top three. Then a late non-revenge touchdown from Chris Ivory really knocked the tournament around. vahomeboy and antwon5 grabbed the second and third spot. The tournament was down to the last few minutes of game play. The Lions in the lead pounding the ball to kill the clock sandstorm found his way into the top three. What an exciting end to the FFFC and when the dust cleared we were left with the top three looking like this. escot4 wins the $2 million with a score of 176.58. vahomeboy is the runner-up scoring 155.38 and k_j_c sneaks into third with 153.08 The touchdowns from Gates and DT were plenty enough to overcome the goose egg from Donte Moncrief and secure the $2 million dollar payout. Here is the $2 million dollar lineup:
The winner rolled out Anderson at QB, along with 47% of the field and a 47% owned Bell at RB. The top three lineups all had this combo along with ODB who clocked in at a high 61% ownership. Beckham turned in a 100+ yard and 3 TD day. Where escot4 differentiated himself and he did so ENTIRELY was his second RB pick. He was the only player to roll out Hill and he had a fantastic day and made up entirely for his zero burger with Moncrief. You can’t really be more contrary than 1/100. Demarius Thomas who was 13% owned also pulled his usual load and scored 21+ points. Hill was a value/contrarian play that payed off and gave him the salary relief to roster up Thomas, Beckham, and Bell. Anyway you dissect it a lineup that makes you $2 million was a pretty good lineup that day. Here are the second and third place lineups:
Congrats to escot4, Scott Hanson, for winning the biggest prize in DFS history and too all who qualified and sweat the tournament. Big shout out to HeyBaby33 as well who finished 20th and took down a cool $50,000. We will have a follow up interview later this week with him to get his thoughts on competing for such a large prize. To those who didn’t qualify well there’s always next year and maybe the prize pool will be even bigger in 2015.
