The NFL is rolling, and injury news continues to create implications in seasonal and daily fantasy football as well as in sports betting markets. Every week, we’ll bring you a list of the key injuries that could impact sports betting odds and DFS contests on sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel.
Note that players who fail to practice on Thursdays and/or Fridays leading into games may be listed as questionable but are in actuality closer to doubtful. Be sure to check back each afternoon to see whether critical players did any work in practice for clues as to their eventual status.
NFL coaches are famous for being taciturn when it comes to injuries, so nothing is set in stone when trying to predict how a player will perform, even if active.
This article will be updated several times throughout the week, so check back often. Here are the key injuries to watch ahead of Week 13.
Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals (Thumb, Out)
Andy Dalton is done for the year, and with A.J. Green (toe) banged up, the Bengals offense may be ripe to target with the Broncos D/ST this Sunday. Former sixth-round pick Jeff Driskell will start going forward with recently signed veteran Tom Savage backing him up.
Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears (Shoulder, Doubtful)
If Mitchell Trubisky is out this Sunday, Chase Daniel will get another start in a plus matchup at the Giants. Trubisky is dealing with an AC joint sprain and is listed as doubtful.
Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens (Hip, Doubtful)
Lamar Jackson has played well against two weak opponents and could keep the starting job even if Joe Flacco is able to return later this season.
Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders (Ankle, Questionable)
His toughness questioned, Derek Carr hung around too long in a loss at Baltimore and yielded even better results to that D/ST by getting sacked two more times. The Chiefs’ improving pass rush should be all over him this Sunday.
Sam Darnold, New York Jets (Foot, Questionable)
Josh McCown is dealing with hand and back injuries and Sam Darnold has returned to practice on a limited basis. The rookie could start in a tough matchup at Tennessee, although the Jets won’t name a starting QB until Sunday.
Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs (Released)
Kareem Hunt was caught on video in an altercation with a woman at a hotel and has been released. Spencer Ware will start against the Raiders and carry the load going forward.
Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers (Knee, Out)
Melvin Gordon played through a questionable tag last Sunday and wound up spraining his MCL, putting him on the shelf for multiple weeks. Austin Ekeler will likely see the majority of work with Justin Jackson factoring in as the Chargers’ preferred option on inside runs.
Leonard Fournette, Jacksonville Jaguars (Suspension, Out)
Leonard Fournette will serve a one-game suspension for his role in Sunday’s brawl at Buffalo. Carlos Hyde will take over as the primary RB with T.J. Yeldon mixing in on passing downs against the Colts. Cody Kessler is going to start at QB with Blake Bortles benched.
Kerryon Johnson, Detroit Lions (Knee, Out)
Kerryon Johnson missed last week’s tough matchup with the Bears and LeGarrette Blount produced two flukey touchdowns. Theo Riddick will have a better chance to produce with Detroit in comeback mode against the elite Rams this week.
Marlon Mack, Indianapolis Colts (Concussion, Questionable)
Marlon Mack is in the league’s concussion protocol, and if he’s not cleared to face Jacksonville Sunday, Andrew Luck will be forced to throw early and often against a good pass defense. Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins would split backfield work.
Alex Collins, Baltimore Ravens (Foot, Out)
Gus Jackson (ankle) and Collins both returned to practice Thursday, but then Collins was sent to I.R. ending his season. Jackson will handle early-down work with Ty Montgomery mixing in on passing downs in a plus matchup at Atlanta.
Chris Thompson, Washington Redskins (Ribs, Questionable)
Chris Thompson is expected to return to action Monday night against the Eagles. Kapri Bibbs becomes irrelevant and Adrian Peterson (shoulder, questionable) could lose some work to Thompson.
Josh Adams, Philadelphia Eagles (Hip, Questionable)
Josh Adams suffered a hip stinger in practice Saturday, putting his feature back role in question. Corey Clement could see more snaps and Darren Sproles (hamstring) is a threat to handle passing down work as he’s set to return from a lengthy absence.
Kenyan Drake, Miami Dolphins (Shoulder, Questionable)
Kenyan Drake hurt his shoulder before returning to the game in Indianapolis last Sunday. If he’s limited against Buffalo this week, Frank Gore will see more work. Drake is practicing in limited fashion.
Rex Burkhead, New England Patriots (Neck, Questionable)
Rex Burkhead is eligible to return from I.R. in Week 13 but figures to fight for scraps behind James White and Sony Michel.
Out for Extended Period: Jay Ajayi, Devonta Freeman, Jerick McKinnon, Derrius Guice, Rob Kelley, Jeremy Hill, Raheem Mostert
Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings (Knee, Questionable)
Stefon Diggs missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but is expected to play Sunday. He’ll be worth using in DFS contests in a potential shootout with the Patriots, even in the coverage of top CB Stephon Gillmore.
A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals (Toe, Questionable)
A.J. Green expects to return on Sunday against the Broncos, but he’ll be catching passes from Jeff Driskell with Andy Dalton done for the year.
Marvin Jones, Detroit Lions (Knee, Out)
Marvin Jones will not return to the field this year, locking Kenny Golladay into huge usage with Bruce Ellington (back, questionable) and Theo Riddick next in line for targets from Matthew Stafford.
Emmanuel Sanders, Denver Broncos (Heel, Questionable)
Emmanuel Sanders has been banged up for weeks and was limited Thursday with what is listed as a heel injury. He should continue to serve as Denver’s top WR in a great matchup at Cincinnati.
T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts (Groin, Questionable)
T.Y. Hilton has been limited in practice by a groin injury and will draw a tough matchup at Jacksonville this week.
Keke Coutee, Houston Texans (Hamstring, Questionable)
Keke Coutee’s balk hamstring caused more issues in Week 12, and he’s a game-time decision for Sunday’s matchup with the Browns.
Sammy Watkins, Kansas City Chiefs (Foot, Out)
Even after resting throughout the bye week, Sammy Watkins will not play in Week 13 at Oakland. Chris Conley will step in as the third option behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.
Devin Funchess, Carolina Panthers (Back, Questionable)
Devin Funchess is in danger of becoming the fourth or fifth option for Cam Newton. Even if he plays Sunday at Tampa, D.J. Moore and Jarius Wright seem more likely for production in a beautiful matchup. Damiere Byrd (arm) is done for the season and Curtis Samuel (hamstring) is also questionable.
Marquise Goodwin, San Francisco 49ers (Personal, Out)
Both Pierre Garcon (knee) limited and Marquise Goodwin (personal) are expected to miss another game Sunday. Dante Pettis and Kendrick Bourne will be worth consideration as value WRs in a tough matchup at Seattle.
Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers (Hamstring, Questionable)
Randall Cobb remains bothered by a lingering hamstring injury and Equanimeous St. Brown (elbow) is also questionable. Marques Valdez-Scantling and Trevor Davis could see some looks from Aaron Rodgers with Davante Adams battling Patrick Peterson this Sunday.
Jamison Crowder, Washington Redskins (Ankle, Questionable)
Jamison Crowder has a chance to return to action Monday night against the Eagles. That could push Maurice Harris outside. Rookie WR Trey Quinn (ankle) had been manning the slot, but he’s also questionable.
Bruce Ellington, Detroit Lions (Back, Questionable)
Bruce Ellington is in line for 5-10 targets this Sunday if he can suit up, as the Lions (+10) will likely be playing from behind against the elite Rams.
Danny Amendola, Miami Dolphins (Knee, Doubtful)
Danny Amendola continues to live up to his injury-prone reputation. He’s officially doubtful for a brutal matchup against the Bills. DeVante Parker (shoulder) is also questionable.
DeSean Jackson, Tampa Bay Bucs (Thumb, Out)
DeSean Jackson will not play Sunday, funneling more targets towards Adam Humphries and Chris Godwin in a plus matchup against Carolina.
Out for Extended Period: Cooper Kupp, Will Fuller, Geronimo Allison, Marqise Lee, Mack Hollins, Ted Ginn Jr., Cody Latimer, Mike Wallace
Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (Back, Out)
Jack Doyle will miss the remainder of the season with a kidney injury. Mo Alie-Cox (calf) is out this week, so Eric Ebron will have all the TE snaps to himself.
Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins (Back, Questionable)
Jordan Reed is banged up as per usual and questionable to face the Eagles. His stock is trending up with Colt McCoy under center instead of the more conservative Alex Smith.
Jeff Heuerman, Denver Broncos (Ribs, Out)
Jeff Heuerman was emerging as a top option in Denver’s low-volume passing attack but will miss the rest of the season with broken ribs. Matt LaCosse will step in as the starting TE.
Evan Engram, New York Giants (Hamstring, Out)
Evan Engram will not be ready to face the Bears Sunday. Sterling Shepard could see more targets in a tough matchup.
Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers (Thumb, Questionable)
Jimmy Graham was able to play Sunday night but looked limited. Lance Kendricks could see more snaps at TE going forward.
Out for Extended Period: Tyler Eifert, Tyler Kroft, Delanie Walker, Hunter Henry, Jake Butt, Will Dissly
Jake Fisher, Cincinnati Bengals (Back, Out)
The Bengals lost their starting RT for the season and with Andy Dalton (thumb) out, the Broncos defense could make life very tough on replacement starter Jeff Driskell.
Andrew Norwell, Jacksonville Jaguars (Ankle, Out)
The Jaguars lost yet another starting offensive lineman for the season in LG Andrew Norwell. It will be tough for this run-first offense to thrive against the Colts in Week 13.
James Carpenter, New York Jets (Shoulder, Out)
The Jets placed their starting LG on I.R. with a shoulder injury.
Ryan Kelly, Indianapolis Colts (Knee, Questionable)
Andrew Luck was under more pressure than usual with Ryan Kelly out last Sunday. The Colts will hope to have their starting center back in Jacksonville Sunday.
Out for Extended Period: Isaiah Wynn, Ron Leary, Morgan Moses, Brandon Scherff, Kyle Long, Travis Frederick, Cam Robinson, Jon Halapio, Brandon Fusco, Andy Levitre, Matt Kalil, Daryl Williams, Seantrel Henderson, A.Q. Shipley
J.J. Watt, Houston Texans (Knee, Questionable)
J.J. Watt is currently the No. 1 ranked edge defender in the NFL and the Browns would certainly benefit if he’s inactive in Week 13.
Out for Extended Period: Carl Lawson, Vincent Taylor, William Hayes, Muhammad Wilkerson, Marcus Davenport, Ryan Glasnow, Vita Vea, Tyquan Lewis
Josh Bynes, Arizona Cardinals (Thumb, Out)
The Cardinals’ already 31st-ranked run defense will become even worse with Josh Bynes done for the year. Aaron Jones will have a very high floor with the Packers (-14) expected to roll at home.
K.J. Wright, Seattle Seahawks (Knee, Out)
Christian McCaffrey obliterated the Seahawks with K.J. Wright out Sunday. Matt Breida has a chance for a good game with the LB out this week.
Deion Jones, Atlanta Falcons (Foot, Questionable)
Deion Jones will return for the first time since Week 1 and look to slow down the Ravens’ rush-heavy offense.
Lavonte David, Tampa Bay Bucs (Knee, Questionable)
On a related note, the Bucs gave up over 100 yards to Matt Breida last week and will remain vulnerable against Christian McCaffrey and the Panthers if Lavonte David is out this Sunday.
Jordan Hicks, Philadelphia Eagles (Calf, Questionable)
Jordan Hicks is week-to-week with a calf injury, and the Eagles have a big divisional game against the Redskins Monday night. Adrian Peterson and Jordan Reed would benefit if Hicks is out.
Out for Extended Period: Sean Lee, Jake Ryan, Dominique Easley, Kyzir White, Josh Martin
Jalen Ramsey, Jacksonville Jaguars (Knee, Questionable)
With their season circling the drain, the Jaguars could hold out elite CB Jalen Ramsey Sunday against the Colts. Should Ramsey sit, T.Y. Hilton would see a huge boost to his matchup.
Aqib Talib, Los Angeles Rams (Ankle, Questionable)
Aqib Talib is expected to return to action in Week 13 and will immediately look to contain Lions top WR Kenny Golladay.
Avonte Maddox, Philadelphia Eagles (Knee, Out)
Avonte Maddox and LCB Jalen Mills (foot) have been ruled out of Monday’s matchup with the Redskins. Rasul Douglas (knee) and slot CB Sidney Jones (hamstring) will play against Washington’s weak passing attack.
Andrew Sendejo, Minnesota Vikings (Groin, Out)
The Vikings lost their elite FS for the season and will have a hard time handling a resurgent Rob Gronkowski and the Patriots this Sunday.
Xavier Rhodes, Minnesota Vikings (Hamstring, Questionable)
The Vikings’ top CB pulled a hamstring late in Sunday’s win over the Packers and is questionable for a Week 13 date with the Patriots. Josh Gordon would benefit most from his potential absence.
Donte Jackson, Carolina Panthers (Quad, Questionable)
The Panthers’ promising rookie CB left Sunday’s game with a quad injury and is questionable for a potential shootout at Tampa Bay
Tramaine Brock, Denver Broncos (Ribs, Questionable)
The Broncos’ starting LCB injured his ribs and was replaced by Isaac Yiadom, who, in turn, contributed to a huge day for JuJu Smith-Schuster with poor coverage. John Ross could have a good day on the outside, and A.J. Green will be worth GPP consideration if he returns for Cincy.
Eric Berry, Kansas City Chiefs (Heel, Questionable)
The Chiefs’ safety could suit up Sunday for the first time this season. The KC D/ST is an underrated option at Oakland.
Jimmie Ward, San Francisco 49ers (Arm, Out)
Struggling everywhere outside of Richard Sherman’s coverage, the Niners lost another member of their defense in FS Jimmie Ward. His backup, rookie D.J. Reed, also left the game with a heel injury. Tyler Lockett and the Seahawks receivers could have another good day.
Tony Jefferson, Baltimore Ravens (Ankle, Out)
The Ravens’ safety departed Sunday’s win with an ankle and is out against the Falcons Sunday.
Dre Kirkpatrick, Cincinnati Bengals (Shoulder, Questionable)
The Bengals’ defense is one of the worst in the league and will be even more vulnerable against the Broncos if starting CB Dre Kirkpatrick remains out.
Out for Extended Period: Jason Verrett, Eric Berry, Patrick Robinson, Vernon Hargreaves, Ross Cockrell, Phillip Gaines, Byron Maxwell, Ricardo Allen, Keanu Neal
Phil Dawson, Arizona Cardinals (Hip, Out)
Phil Dawson has been sent to I.R., and Zane Gonzalez will kick for Arizona going forward.
