NHL DFS Tournaments
NHL DFS Centers
Connor McDavid vs. MON ($7.9 DK / $9.2 FD)
The Montreal Canadiens play a freestyle game of hockey that has them in the top 10 in goals scored and goals against. Connor McDavid has 23 points in 17 games but only two in his last four. I highly doubt that’s enough to lower his ownership in tournaments as it likely means he’s in for a night. He’s only been held scoreless in three games this season. The Canadiens’ defense has struggled with speed, and Carey Price has allowed 19 goals in his last four games (assuming he gets the start this time).
Bo Horvat @ NYI ($5.6 DK / $5.9 FD)
The New York Islanders have allowed the sixth-most shots and scoring chances against at 5 on 5, per 60 minutes. Vancouver has surprisingly scored the third-most goals in the NHL while allowing the third-most goals against. The latter isn’t a surprise, but you want to attack their run-and-gun style of play in DFS. Bo Horvat is very affordable and has a quiet nine goals and 16 points in 18 games. His 20:08 per game leads all Vancouver forwards, and his 244 faceoff wins lead the league, which keeps him on the ice.
Others to consider: Sidney Crosby, Aleksander Barkov, Steven Stamkos, Dylan Larkin, Derek Stepan, Eric Staal, Max Domi
NHL DFS Wingers
Anthony Mantha vs. ARI ($4.8 DK / $4.0 FD)
Anthony Mantha may have only five goals, but he leads the Red Wings in SF/60 and HDCF/60. Mantha picked up two goals in his last game and played a season-high 20:18 on the top line with Dylan Larkin, who is also a strong play. The opposing Coyotes rank inside the top 10 in shots against and high-danger scoring chances against at 5v5, per 60 minutes. Mantha has 10 shots in his last three games and 17 in his last five.
Mike Hoffman @ PHI ($6.7 DK / $5.5 FD)
Mike Hoffman has at least a point in 12 straight games and checks in at a very reasonable price on FanDuel. Hoffman has a ridiculous seven goals, 14 points and 42 shots over that span. He has games with six, seven, and eight shots during this run with five total points on the power play. The Philadelphia Flyers have given up the fourth-most goals against per game (3.53).
Mikael Granlund vs. WAS ($5.7 DK / $6.7 FD)
Eight of Mikael Granlund’s 10 goals have come in the last 10 games, and he has 18 points in 17 games this season. Granlund enters tonight’s game against the Washington Capitals with goals in three straight and five points over that span. Washington has allowed the most high-danger scoring chances at 5 on 5, per 60 minutes. They’ve given up the sixth-most goals per game. The Minnesota Wild rank sixth in high-danger scoring chances and overall scoring chances per 60 minutes, during 5 on 5.
Andrew Shaw @ EDM ($3.7 DK / $3.3 FD)
At Andrew Shaw’s price, it’s worth it to see if he can keep it going. Shaw has seven shots and three goals in his last two games. He scored two goals and played a season-high 19 minutes in his last game. The biggest factor in his success is skating on a line with Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin. Shaw is also on the second power play unit and has been all year, but he’s still only a tournament play.
Others to consider: Nikita Kucherov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Anders Lee, Frank Vatrano, Clayton Keller, Jason Zucker, Mitch Marner, Kyle Palmieri
NHL DFS Defensemen
Keith Yandle @ PHI ($6.3 DK / $5.6 FD)
Keith Yandle has been one of the safest defensemen in fantasy: 15 points in 14 games. Eight of his points have come on the power play, and he’s averaging 24 minutes per game. Yandle has only been held off the scoresheet in two games this season, and one of them came on opening night.
Dennis Cholowski vs. ARI ($3.8 DK / $3.9 FD)
Dennis Cholowski will save you a bit of cash and has some offensive upside. The rookie defenseman has eight points, and five of them have come in his last 10 games. He’s averaging 20:40 per game and 2:21 on the power play.
Others to consider: Kris Letang, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Matt Dumba, Morgan Rielly, Jeff Petry, Oscar Klefbom, Olli Maatta, Mike Reilly
NHL DFS Goalies
Frederik Andersen @ LA ($8.2 DK / $8.7 FD)
Frederik Andersen has won three straight games and has turned aside 105 of the last 107 shots he’s faced. His Maple Leafs have allowed the ninth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5 on 5, which makes Andersen’s 2.10 GAA and .933 save percentage all the more impressive. The Los Angeles Kings may get their chances tonight, but they rank last in goals per game.
Others to consider: Andrei Vasilevskiy, Casey DeSmith
