The NFL is rolling, and injury news continues to create implications in seasonal and daily fantasy football as well as in sports betting markets. Every week, we’ll bring you a list of the key injuries that could impact sports betting odds and DFS contests on sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel.
Note that players who fail to practice on Thursdays and/or Fridays leading into games may be listed as questionable but are in actuality closer to doubtful. Be sure to check back each afternoon to see whether critical players did any work in practice for clues as to their eventual status.
NFL coaches are famous for being taciturn when it comes to injuries, so nothing is set in stone when trying to predict how a player will perform, even if active.
This article will be updated several times throughout the week, so check back often. Here are the key injuries to watch ahead of Week 7.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (Elbow, Out)
Josh Allen will miss 2-3 weeks with an elbow injury. The Bills will turn to newly signed veteran Derek Anderson to start in Week 7 against the Colts rather than rolling with Nathan Peterman.
Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (Shoulder, Out)
Ryan Tannehill was inactive in Week 6, and the Dolphins won in overtime with Brock Osweiler under center. Osweiler will start against the Lions this Sunday and that makes Detroit’s defense a viable streamer.
Devonta Freeman, Atlanta Falcons (Groin, Out)
Devonta Freeman has been placed on I.R. and will have groin surgery, potentially ending his season. Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith will share the backfield for Atlanta in what appears headed toward a relatively even split.
T.J. Yeldon, Jacksonville Jaguars (Ankle, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
While the Jaguars are likely just limiting his reps, it’s concerning to note that T.J. Yeldon didn’t practice on Wednesday. If he’s inactive or hobbled, the Texans defense could feast. Note: Carlos Hyde was traded to Jacksonville for a fifth-round pick. He won’t be active in Week 7, but Hyde’s departure from Cleveland opens up more reps for rookie Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson Jr.
Chris Thompson, Washington Redskins (Ribs, Questionable)
Chris Thompson sat out Week 6 with a rib and knee injury. Kapri Bibbs would continue to fill in as the Redskins’ receiving back if Thompson is out this Sunday.
Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings (Hamstring, Out) – Updated 10/20
Dalvin Cook will not suit up against the Jets in Week 7. That makes Latavius Murray a tempting DFS play after he thrived with positive game flow against Arizona last week.
Isaiah Crowell, New York Jets (Foot, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
Isaiah Crowell didn’t look right in a loss to the Colts and missed practice on Wednesday. He returned to practice Friday, but Bilal Powell would see more work in a tough matchup against Minnesota with Crowell hobbled.
Theo Riddick, Detroit Lions (Knee, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
Theo Riddick is questionable to face the Dolphins and if he’s out, Kerryon Johnson would have a more secure workload in a plus matchup.
Darren Sproles, Philadelphia Eagles (Hamstring, Out)
Jay Ajayi (knee) is done for the year, leaving Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement to share the backfield. When Darren Sproles is able to return, Clement will have competition on passing downs.
Marshawn Lynch, Oakland Raiders (Groin, Out)
The Raiders are on a bye this week, but Marshawn Lynch is expected to be out around a month. Doug Martin and Jalen Richard will split time in the backfield.
Out for Extended Period: Le’Veon Bell, Leonard Fournette, Gio Bernard, Rex Burkhead, Jerick McKinnon, Derrius Guice, Rob Kelley, Jeremy Hill
Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams (Knee, Out)
Cooper Kupp suffered a sprained MCL at Denver this past Sunday and won’t play in Week 7 against the 49ers. The Rams signed Nick Williams, but Josh Reynolds (hand) is more the likely candidate to see steady run with Kupp out. Robert Woods should also see more work out of the slot.
Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons (Ankle, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
Calvin Ridley is questionable for Week 7 along with Mohamed Sanu (hip). Both sat out practice on Thursday, but Ridley practiced in limited fashion Friday. If either sits Monday night against the Giants, Justin Hardy will be asked to step up. The great Julio Jones should see constant double teams.
Quincy Enunwa, New York Jets (Ankle, Out) – Updated 10/20
Jermaine Kearse will see an upswing in targets with Enunwa and Terrelle Pryor (groin) likely out Sunday against Minnesota. Robby Anderson (hamstring) will play and likely draw shadow coverage from top CB Xavier Rhodes.
T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts (Hamstring, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
T.Y. Hilton will return to action against the Bills. Ryan Grant (ankle) is questionable and Chester Rogers is struggling. The Colts have also signed former Chargers slot man Dontrelle Inman.
Allen Robinson, Chicago Bears (Groin, Questionable)
Allen Robinson didn’t practice Thursday and is questionable for a Week 7 date with the Patriots. Taylor Gabriel may be the tougher cover for the Pats bigger CBs in any case.
Cody Latimer, New York Giants (Hamstring, Out)
The Giants placed Cody Latimer on I.R. and have signed former Broncos WR Bennie Fowler to fill his spot in the rotation. Russell Shepard will see a boost in the short term.
Ted Ginn Jr., New Orleans Saints (Knee, Out)
The Saints placed Ted Ginn on I.R. which will give Tre’Quan Smith an opportunity to build on his huge performance in Week 5. Cameron Meredith will also benefit, but both are tough sells when the Saints play outdoors. They’re in Baltimore this Sunday.
Tavon Austin, Dallas Cowboys (Groin, Out)
The Cowboys have one of the weakest receiving corps in the NFL and will be without Tavon Austin this week against the Redskins. Deonte Thompson (hamstring) is hurting, and Brice Butler was a healthy scratch last Sunday. Rookie Michael Gallup will be asked to step up against the Redskins.
Jamison Crowder, Washington Redskins (Ankle, Out) – Updated 10/20
Josh Doctson and Maurice Harris will see more run with Jamison Crowder out in Week 7 against a Cowboys team that struggles to defend slot receivers. Jordan Reed could have a big day in that slot role. Paul Richardson (knee) is also questionable.
Out for Extended Period: Marqise Lee, Mack Hollins, Mike Wallace, Pharoh Cooper, Bruce Ellington
Evan Engram, New York Giants (Knee, Questionable)
Evan Engram is practicing in full and is hopeful to return from a knee sprain Monday night. If active, the Giants’ athletic TE could have a big game against Atlanta’s porous defense.
Niles Paul, Jacksonville Jaguars (Knee, Out)
The Jaguars placed Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) on I.R. and lost Niles Paul for the season, leaving James O’Shaughnessy (hip) and David Grinnage to form an uninspiring committee. The Jags also signed Blake Bell to try and find some receiving production at TE.
Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (Hip, Questionable)
Jack Doyle has yet to resume practicing and is questionable to return from a lengthy absence this Sunday against the Bills. Second-string TE Eric Swoope (knee) is also questionable.
Out for Extended Period: Tyler Eifert, Tyler Kroft, Delanie Walker, Hunter Henry, Jake Butt, Will Dissly
Marcus Cannon, New England Patriots (Concussion, Out)
The Patriots will face the Bears elite pass rush without starting RT Marcus Cannon. LaAdrian Waddle will fill in on the right side of the line.
Alex Lewis, Baltimore Ravens (Neck, Questionable)
Ravens starting LG Alex Lewis suffered a severe neck injury and is questionable to face the Saints in Week 7.
Josh Wells, Jacksonville Jaguars (Groin, Out)
Josh Wells was filling in at LT after the Jaguars lost Cam Robinson (knee) for the season. Now, Wells is on I.R., so Giants castoff Ereck Flowers will try to protect Blake Bortles. The Jaguars offense is backsliding badly with Fournette out. What’s more, Houston’s D/ST is rising.
Riley Reiff, Minnesota Vikings (Foot, Questionable)
Vikings starting RT Riley Reiff was out in Week 6 and is questionable to face the Jets this Sunday.
Out for Extended Period: Isaiah Wynn, Travis Frederick, Cam Robinson, Jon Halapio, Andy Levitre, Matt Kalil, Daryl Williams, Seantrel Henderson, A.Q. Shipley
Gerald McCoy, Tampa Bay Bucs (Calf, Out) – Updated 10/20
Run stopper Gerald McCoy will miss this week’s matchup with the Browns. That will open things up in the middle for Nick Chubb, who is now the Browns lead back.
Ezekial Ansah, Detroit Lions (Shoulder, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
The Lions may get their best pass rusher back for a matchup with stationary QB Brock Osweiler Sunday. Ziggy Ansah has been out since Week 1.
Cameron Wake, Miami Dolphins (Knee, Questionable)
Cameron Wake underwent a procedure on his knee but could return for a Week 7 date with Detroit. Matthew Stafford would have more time to throw if Wake is out.
Out for Extended Period: Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Ansah, Everson Griffen, William Hayes, Muhammad Wilkerson, Timmy Jernigan, Ryan Glasnow, Vita Vea, Tyquan Lewis
Sean Lee, Dallas Cowboys (Hamstring, Questionable)
Sean Lee returned to practice on a limited basis and looks like he has a chance to return Sunday against the Redskins.
Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears (Ankle, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
The Patriots luck may have struck again, as they might get to face the Bears with elite pass rusher Khalil Mack at less than full strength. He appeared a bit hobbled against the Dolphins last week and his absence would be a huge boost for Tom Brady and the Pats passing game.
Justin Houston, Kansas City Chiefs (Hamstring, Questionable)
Justin Houston missed Sunday night’s shootout with the Patriots and is unlikely to return Sunday when the Bengals visit Kansas City.
Nick Vigil, Cincinnati Bengals (Knee, Out)
Bengals ILB Nick Vigil suffered a sprained MCL and is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
Derrick Morgan, Tennessee Titans (Shoulder, Questionable)
While Wesley Woodyard returned from his shoulder injury, the Titans lost WLB Derrick Morgan to a shoulder injury in a shutout loss to Baltimore. Morgan is expected to be out multiple weeks.
Out for Extended Period: Jake Ryan, Deion Jones, Dominique Easley, Kyzir White, Josh Martin
Marcus Maye, New York Jets (Thumb, Out)
Jets FS Marcus Maye has already been ruled out while top CB Trumaine Johnson (quad) and slot CB Buster Skrine (head) are also questionable to face the Vikings this Sunday. Adam Thielen should continue to set the league on fire with Kirk Cousins feeding him the ball.
Mike Hughes, Minnesota Vikings (Knee, Out)
Vikings rookie CB Mike Hughes will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Minnesota still has Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes to hold down the position in a great secondary.
Richard Sherman, San Francisco 49ers (Calf, Questionable) – Updated 10/20
The Niners may be without their top CB this week. Brandin Cooks could thrive against second CB Jimmie Ward.
D.J. Hayden, Jacksonville Jaguars (Toe, Questionable)
The Jaguars will hope their slot CB can return in Week 7 to cover Texans rookie Keke Coutee.
Out for Extended Period: Jason Verrett, Eric Berry, Patrick Robinson, Kenny Vaccaro, Vernon Hargreaves, Ross Cockrell, Phillip Gaines, Byron Maxwell, Daryl Worley, Ricardo Allen, Keanu Neal
Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons (Hamstring, Out)
The Falcons will be without their veteran kicker in Week 7 and have signed former Raiders pick Giorgio Tavecchio to fill in Monday night against the Giants.
Greg Zuerlein, Los Angeles Rams (Quad, Questionable)
The Rams have cut Cairo Santos to welcome back their all-pro kicker.
