Week 5 of NFL DFS is here, and we’re looking to cash in on the big daily fantasy football money at FanDuel. Now through the playoffs, we’ll bring you our top NFL DFS GPP picks for each position and recommend some Cash plays as well.
As with any daily fantasy sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, gameflow, and several more factors. This is important to remember when constructing a roster on any of the daily fantasy sites.
FanDuel DFS Week 5 Tournaments
FanDuel DFS Quarterback Picks
Matt Ryan @ PIT ($8.3K)
The 57.5 game total between the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers is the highest of the week. Both Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Ryan are in play this week, but Ryan comes in much hotter. He has 12 touchdowns while averaging 329 passing yards per game. He’s also thrown for more than 1,000 yards over his last three games. Ryan ranks second in FanDuel points per game at the quarterback position, and the Steelers have allowed the most fantasy points to QBs. They’ve surrendered the third-most yards per game and the fourth-most passing yards per game. On the other side, Atlanta has allowed the fifth-most yards per game and fourth most to QBs. Neither defense can play at the moment, so expect some points.
Philip Rivers vs. OAK ($8.2K)
The Los Angeles Chargers’ implied team total of 31 is tied with Pittsburgh for the highest of the week. Philip Rivers has thrown the second-most passing touchdowns (11) and is in a prime spot to pad his stats. Football Outsiders has the Raiders as the second-worst defense in the NFL. They’ve allowed the sixth-most passing yards so far.
Cash game QBs to consider: Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton, Jared Goff, Andy Dalton
FanDuel DFS Running Back Picks
James Conner vs. ATL ($7.8K)
As mentioned above, Pittsburgh’s implied total (31) is the highest mark of the week. A matchup against Atlanta should make us all forget the recent struggles from James Conner. The Falcons have allowed the eighth-most rushing yards and the second-most rushing touchdowns (six). They’ve also given up the third-most points per game along with the fifth-most yards per game. Conner enters with 24 targets, 18 catches, and 164 receiving yards. Atlanta has allowed a league-high 42 catches to running backs this season after allowing the most to them in 2017.
T.J. Yeldon @ KC ($6.5K)
T.J. Yeldon will get the start Sunday as Leonard Fournette is already ruled out. Yeldon only had 52 rushing yards last week, but he came away with 18 carries. No team ran the ball more than the Jaguars last season, and the game plan should stay the same with Yeldon. Opportunity is hard to ignore, especially cheap opportunity. KC has allowed the most yards per game, the fifth-most rushing yards per game, and the second-most fantasy points to running backs. They rank 29th in DVOA against the rush, according to Football Outsiders. Yeldon also checks in with 14 catches on 22 targets and has found the end zone twice through the air in 2018 (three times total).
Aaron Jones @ DET ($6.1K)
The Green Bay backfield is still a bit too crowded to play any of them in Cash, but it’s only a matter of time before Aaron Jones takes over. Jones and Jamaal Williams both totaled 11 caries last week, but Jones netted 65 yards to Williams’ 27. Detroit is allowing a league-high 157 rushing yards per game and the third-most fantasy points to running backs.
Cash game RBs to consider: Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, Christian McCaffrey, Marshawn Lynch, Dion Lewis
FanDuel DFS Wide Receiver Picks
Julio Jones @ PIT ($8.8K)
Julio Jones has zero touchdowns this season, and he had only three last season. Even still, he’s arguably the best wideout in the game. The lack of touchdowns is just inexplicable. Still, it’s only a matter of time before Jones finds the end zone. Maybe this week against a Steelers team that has given up the second-most yards to wideouts and seven touchdowns to the position is the time. Jones leads the league with 502 receiving yards. His 46 targets rank fourth, and his 29 catches rank sixth. Pittsburgh has allowed the third-most yards per game, the fourth-most passing yards per game, and the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers.
Adam Thielen @ PHI ($8.3K)
Adam Thielen leads the NFL with 56 targets and all wideouts with 19.8 FanDuel points per game. He’s second in catches (40) and yards (473). Thielen has hit the 100-yard and 12-target mark in all four games with Kirk Cousins. Philadelphia has been amazing again this season against the run, but they have given up the third-most catches (64) to wide receivers. It’s resulted in the fourth-most fantasy points to the position.
Amari Cooper @ LAC ($6.5K)
Amari Cooper is still too inconsistent to trust in Cash, but he’s had two performances this season that were enough to win tournaments. Cooper had eight catches on 12 targets for 128 yards last week. Also, Oakland’s defense (or lack thereof) has resulted in a lot of passing. The Raiders rank second in total yards, and the Chargers have given up the fifth-most fantasy points to WRs. They’ve also allowed eight touchdowns to wideouts. Cooper had a game this season where he caught all 10 of his targets for 116 yards. It’s that kind of upside that’s enough to win a tournament.
Cash game WRs to consider: Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp, Tyler Boyd, Golden Tate
FanDuel DFS Tight End Picks
Jared Cook @ LAC ($5.9K)
Jared Cook is the highest-scoring tight end in fantasy football. He leads all TEs with 15.5 FanDuel points per game. Cook racked up eight catches, 110 yards, and two touchdowns last week. He also leads all tight ends with 370 yards and has two 100-yard games already in 2018, matching his total last season. Cook’s 35 targets, 26 catches, and 370 yards are all team-highs as his Raiders currently rank second in yards per game. The Chargers are allowing the fifth-most points per game and the 10th-most yards per game.
Vance McDonald vs. ATL ($4.6K)
Vance McDonald is cheaper than his teammate Jesse James, but it’s McDonald you want. He’s completely taken over since returning to the lineup. McDonald has 15 targets, 12 catches, and 200 yards in his three games this season. James has two targets and two catches in his last two games.
Cash game TEs to consider: Zach Ertz
FanDuel Defense DFS Picks
Tennessee Titans @ BUF ($3.9K)
The Titans enter with 12 sacks, and the Buffalo Bills have allowed a league-high 21 sacks. Josh Allen has thrown for under 200 yards passing in two of his three starts. Thus, Buffalo ranks last in passing yards and second last in points per game.
Cash game DSTs to consider: Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens
