MLB DFS DraftKings.com & FanDuel.com Lineups & Picks for September 20, 2018
There are seven games on the main MLB DFS slate for Thursday, 9/20/18. Below is a list of our best MLB DFS picks for pitchers, hitters, and stacks to target in Cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel.
Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a huge part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by a weak team.
Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing for an MLB slate. If a game gets rained out, your player gets zero points!

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for September 20, 2018
Max Scherzer vs. NYM ($13.0k DraftKings, $12.0k FanDuel)
After a rare off night in Atlanta, Max Scherzer could see lower ownership than usual on DraftKings and FanDuel tonight. Yet he clearly has the highest ceiling on this short slate and a much higher floor than Masahiro Tanaka in a tough matchup against Boston. The Mets are ranked 29th in batting average (.236) this year, and current Mets are batting just .188 (35-for-186) with a whopping 67 Ks (36% K-Rate) in their careers against Scherzer. His batted ball data is absolutely elite against LHBs (16.2% LD Rate, 26.7% hard contact rate). Scherzer is striking out 12.29 batters per nine innings at home.
Matt Boyd vs. KC ($9.4k DraftKings, $8.5k FanDuel)
Matt Boyd is a safer option to consider in Cash games rather than take a chance on either SP in the Yanks-Sox game in the Bronx. The young Tigers LHP is unlikely to go to far over his projection of 15.6 DraftKings points on RotoQL, which just happens to be his average on the season. Yet he should be right on that number against a Royals team with the fourth-lowest batting average (.231), wOBA (.287) and the third-highest K-Rate (23.9%) in the Majors against LHP this season. Boyd is 6-3 with a 2.44 ERA and .186 BAA at home this season and is hitting his stride in September with an 11.78 K/9 ratio and .154 BAA over his last three outings.
Jason Vargas @ WAS ($4.6k DraftKings, $7.0k FanDuel)
The cheapest SP on the board on DraftKings tonight, Jason Vargas is still projected for 14.7 DK points, according to RotoQL. Taking a chance on the crafty lefty could pay off by allowing you to pay up for big bats, and Vargas is capable of exceeding value even if Scherzer out-duels him. He’s posted a 3.09 ERA over his last six outings, which include a 6-run, 8-strikeout shutout performance against these Nationals. Washington is less dangerous with a .314 wOBA and a collective 20.9% line drive rate when facing LHPs this year.
Other pitchers to consider: Eduardo Rodriguez, Kevin Gausman
Best MLB DFS Hitters for September 20, 2018
Freddie Freeman vs. PHI ($5.1k DraftKings, $4.4k FanDuel)
Freddie Freeman rides a hot streak into a beautiful matchup against hard-throwing RHP Vince Velasquez. “Friendly Freddie” has 8 hits, including 2 HRs over his last three appearances, and he boasts a 44.2% hard contact rate with a 16% HR/FB ratio at home this season. Velasquez is giving up a 1.64 HR/9 ratio and allowing LHBs to post a .366 wOBA on the year. He’s struggled in three consecutive starts with 12 ER allowed over just 11 IP and is 0-4 with a 7.41 ERA and .377 BAA over three outings against the Braves this year, giving that entire lefty-heavy lineup plenty of appeal.
Josh Donaldson vs. CWS ($4.5k DraftKings, $3.5k FanDuel)
This could be the night Josh Donaldson joins the likes of Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez as a leader in the Cleveland lineup by pouncing on old RHP James Shields. The 36-year-old has already tossed 192.2 innings this season and is clearly wearing down with a 2.15 HR/9 ratio and 5.79 FIP since the ASB. Donaldson is 4-for-15 in his career against Shields, and 2 of those 4 hits have been bombs. He obviously hasn’t been on the field much while rehabbing a hamstring pull, but Donaldson has still flashed power with a 16.7% HR/FB ratio and 38.1% hard contact rate over 41 appearances.
Tommy Pham @ TOR ($4.3k DraftKings, $3.4k FanDuel)
The Rays offense started to catch fire right about the time Tommy Pham jumped on board. The former Cardinals prospect is slashing .314/.412/.510 over 27 appearances with Tampa and had his first two-homer game on Tuesday. Tonight the Rays should be all over second-year RHP Sam Gaviglio, who is coughing up a 20.8% HR/FB ratio in RvR matchups this season. Gaviglio has struggled throughout the second half with a 6.00 ERA and .310 BAA, while Pham and the Rays lead the Majors with a collective .294 average and .359 wOBA over the last 30 days. Individually, Pham is projected for 11.4 DraftKings points on RotoQL and profiles as one of the best bargains in that stack.
Other hitters to consider: Francisco Lindor, J.D. Martinez, Michael Brantley, Daniel Palka, Joey Votto, Nick Markakis, Mallex Smith, Gleyber Torres, Eugenio Suarez, Yolmer Sanchez
