MLB DFS & Lineups & Picks for August 29, 2018

There are nine games on the main MLB DFS slate for Wednesday, 8/27/18. Below is a list of our best MLB DFS picks for pitchers, hitters, and stacks to target in Cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a critical part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by an unsuspecting team.

Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing an MLB slate.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for August 29, 2018

Zack Godley @ SF ($8.6 DK / $9.0 FD)

There’s a good chance some won’t even touch Zack Godley after he’s allowed 15 hits, four walks and 11 runs in his last two outings. He’s also up against Dereck Rodriguez who has been money this season. Godley has certainly had his fair share of rough starts, but he has allowed two or fewer in 16 of his 26 starts, which gives him that tournament upside. The Diamondbacks’ pitcher also has a 10 plus K/9 in the second half. He’ll get the same Giants squad he spun a seven-inning shoutout against while striking out nine. SF’s 24.1 strikeout percentage during the second half is the third highest in the Majors. The Giants are 27th in runs scored over that time span. Godley has the highest ceiling of all the pitchers on the schedule. RotoQL agrees; he’s their highest projected starter.

Sean Newcomb vs. TB ($8.9 DK / $8.3 FD)

Sean Newcomb also has a high ceiling despite a 4.28 BB/9. Like Godley, Newcomb has had a few rocky starts, which is all the reason to roll him out in tournaments. The Braves are home favorites, and Newcomb has allowed one or zero runs in 12 starts this season, eight of which have come at SunTrust Park. The Rays are not blowing anybody away offensively. They’ve scored the seventh-fewest runs in the season’s second half. They also have the sixth-highest strikeout rate against southpaws on the season.

CC Sabathia vs. CWS ($8.9 DK / $8.2 FD)

You have to roll out CC Sabathia against the Chicago White Sox in a couple different lineups, don’t you? He struck out 12 over 5.2 innings against the White Sox just three outings ago. Sabathia allowed just four hits and one run in that outing, and it was the fifth straight start in which the Yankees pitcher allowed two or fewer runs. In fact, he’s done that in 16 of his 23 starts and has only surrendered more than three runs in a start four times. Chicago has the highest strikeout rate on the season. It’s also the highest against lefties. There’s a bit of a discount for CC if you play on FanDuel.

Others to consider: Alex Wood, Miles Mikolas

Best MLB DFS Hitters for August 29, 2018

Brian Dozier @ TEX ($4.4 DK / $3.3 FD)

Brian Dozier has slotted into the leadoff spot for Los Angeles of late when they face a left-handed pitcher. They’ll see pitches from Mike Minor this evening. He has allowed 20 home runs and eight in his last eight outings. Minor has a 38.7 hard hit rate and 44.4 fly ball percentage, which have resulted in a 4.40 ERA. Justin Turner and Manny Machado are both on unreal runs and have their way with lefties, but Dozier will save you some money. He had a home run last night and 11 with a .331 average against LHPs last season. His price is about right at DraftKings, especially with the positive park shift.

Luke Voit vs. CWS ($3.8 DK / $2.6 FD)

Three of Luke Voit’s home runs last week came against right-handed pitchers. Two of them were against pitchers who allow a lot of homers (Dylan Bundy and Alex Cobb). He’ll have a great chance to add to that total with Reynaldo Lopez scheduled to pitch for Chicago. Lopez has allowed 23 home runs this season and has given up 34 in his first 240 Major League innings. Lopez also has a career 44.7 fly ball rate and 4.72 ERA. Voit has show tremendous power in what is a small sample size this season: 40.6 hard hit rate, 37.5 fly ball rate over 49 plate appearances. His price and power upside is too nice to pass up on FanDuel. Overall, he’s one of the better values of the night and has appeared in quite a few of my RotoQL optimized lineups.

Odubel Herrera vs. WAS ($4.0 DK / $2.3 FD)

Gio Gonzalez enters tonight’s start against the Phillies having allowed at least five runs in four of his last seven starts. He has a brutal 7.68 K/9 and 4.29 BB/9, which has caused him a lot of trouble. What’s more, Gio has issued at least three walks in 11 of his last 19 starts, and he’s given up 38 hits in his last 26.1 innings. Carlos Santana has always been pretty good against lefties, but Odubel Herrera leads the team with a .290 average. Wilson Ramos, Rhys Hoskins, and Herrera make for an affordable stack. Again, Herrera is a steal on FanDuel.

Miguel Sano @ CLE ($4.2 DK / $2.6 FD)

Adam Plutko has a 54.3 fly ball percentage and 84.9 contact percentage in 56 career innings. The Cleveland pitcher has been lit up in his 53.0 innings this season: 49 hits, 30 runs, 12 home runs. The Twins are an underrated stack against Plutko and his 5.09 ERA. Miguel Sano seems to either strike out or hit a home run all from the cleanup spot. He’s a great tournament play with upside.

Others to consider: Yadier Molina, Wilson Ramos, Matt Carpenter, Freddie Freeman, Gleyber Torres, Devon Travis, Jason Kipnis, Miguel Andujar, Justin Turner, Travis Shaw, Paul DeJong, Trea Turner, Giancarlo Stanton, Juan Soto, Matt Kemp, Eddie Rosario
