MLB DFS & Lineups & Picks for August 8, 2018

There are nine games on the main MLB DFS slate for Tuesday, 8/8/18. Below is a list of our best MLB DFS picks for pitchers, hitters, and stacks to target in Cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. The info below can also be used for creating your daily fantasy baseball strategy at FantasyDraft.

Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a critical part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by an unsuspecting team.

Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing an MLB slate.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for August 8, 2018

Luis Severino @ CWS ($11.9 DK / $9.4 FD)

Luis Severino has allowed 20 runs in his last four starts (20 IP), and he’s surrendered at least one home run in five straight outings (eight total). Still, that shouldn’t be enough for you to shy away from him. Severino has a ton of upside and will face the White Sox, who have the highest strikeout rate in baseball. Plus, Severino vs. Lucas Giolito is a pretty big mismatch. He’s also a nice pivot off Clayton Kershaw at DraftKings.

Clayton Kershaw @ OAK ($12.8 DK / $11.0 FD)

You can fade the just-mentioned Kershaw in a few tournaments, but there’s no reason to completely fade him. He’s on quite the roll of late, having allowed two or fewer runs in three straight starts. Overall, Kershaw has allowed two or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts. That shouldn’t be surprising. While the opposing Athletics have been on a heck of a run, they have a higher strikeout rate and lower wOBA against LHPs than RHPs.

Jose Quintana @ KC ($8.3 DK / $8.2 FD)

Jose Quintana has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last five outings, and he has four wins to show for it. It’s the walks and home runs that have gotten the best of him. Good thing for him that the Royals’ walk rate is the lowest in the league. They also rank 28th in homers and 27th in wOBA. What’s more, KC is larded with the eighth-highest strikeout rate over the last 30 days. Quintana is a cheap play with upside to grab you a win. He’s also the best value at the SP position, according to RotoQL.

Others to consider: Mike Clevinger, Jhoulys Chacin

Best MLB DFS Hitters for August 8, 2018

Justin Turner @ OAK ($3.8 DK / $2.6 FD)

Justin Turner is worth another play tonight given the price and matchup. The Dodgers’ third baseman picked up two hits and a run yesterday to bring his average up to .298 against lefties. Turner had 11 homers and a .380 average against LHPs last season. He’ll get another lefty this evening and remains one of the better values on FanDuel.

Ryan Zimmerman vs. ATL ($3.7 DK / $3.0 FD)

Ryan Zimmerman is also one of the better values out there due to his early season struggles and time spent on the DL. There’s a chance he may have turned it around by this point. He finished yesterday’s double header with six hits. Zimmerman hit a home run and has two homers in his last four starts. The opposing Mike Foltynewicz has given up seven homers and 20 runs in his last five trips to the hill.

Gleyber Torres @ CWS ($4.4 DK / $3.8 FD)

When a pitcher walks as many batters per nine innings as he strikes out, that’s a red flag. Lucas Giolito has a 5.07 BB/9 and 5.74 K/9. The walks have gotten him in so much trouble this season, leading to a 5.97 ERA. He’s surrendered at least three walks in six of his last seven outings. Gleyber Torres remains one of the better values at 2B, according to RotoQL.

Marcell Ozuna @ MIA ($3.8 DK / $3.2 FD)

Let’s stick with the value theme but look at the OF position with Marcell Ozuna. The Cardinals’ outfielder continues to hit in the cleanup spot and has reached base in 10 of his last 12 games. Most of the St. Louis bats are pretty cheap due to the opposing Trevor Richards’ solid run of late. Richards has limited the damage, but he has a 41.7% hard hit rate and 24.6% line drive rate on the year. Both marks are top 10 among pitchers with 80 innings under their belts.

Others to consider: Yadier Molina, Tyler Flowers, Freddie Freeman, Jake Bauers, Brian Dozier, Jonathan Schoop, Anthony Rendon,  Mike Moustakas, Didi Gregorius, Lorenzo Cain, Mallex Smith, Matt Kemp
