NASCAR DFS Cheat Sheet: DraftKings Picks for Coke Zero Sugar 400

Each week, we’ll have an early week cheat sheet for the DFS NASCAR contests at DraftKings. This week, we look at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona Motor Speedway.

TOP 5 FAVORITES TO WIN

1. Kevin Harvick

Typically, the drivers having great seasons are not exceptional plays at Daytona and Talladega. These drivers have an edge at the intermediate tracks and the short tracks. The restrictor plate evens the playing field, but then again, maybe it doesn’t. Harvick nearly won at Talladega (4th). His last four races at Daytona have been rough, but he has 11 top 15 finishes at plate tracks since 2014.

2. Joey Logano

The spring Talladega winner has won the summer Daytona race two years in a row, and that’s Logano’s trend to maintain or buck this week. Ford has dominated the plate tracks for the last three years. Logano and his Penske teammates have led that domination. As mentioned in the Talladega article, Logano has the best plate track spotter in NASCAR, T.J. Majors. He guided Dale Earnhardt, Jr to multiple Daytona and Talladega wins.

3. Brad Keselowski

Luck isn’t a big factor in professional sports, but it is at restrictor plate tracks. Keselowski’s luck has been terrible at the plate tracks this season. Luck fades, but skill is always there. Keselowski has won more plate races than any other driver in the field (six wins). He also won the summer Daytona race in 2016.

4. Clint Bowyer

Is he in a Ford? Yes. Does he drive a Stewart-Haas Racing Ford? Yes. Is Bowyer a good plate racer? He’s the best (ranked No. 1 in average plate race finish). Any other questions? Is he racing well this season? He’s one of the hottest drivers in NASCAR.

5. Aric Almirola

Everyone remembers Almirola getting dumped on the final turn of the Daytona 500. He still finished 11th. He followed Daytona with a seventh-place finish at Talladega. Almirola has always been a good plate racer. He has finished 16th or better in 11 of his last 13 plate races. Now, racing an SHR Ford, Almirola is better than a good plate racer.

LONG SHOTS TO SCORE BIG

1. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. – The most accident prone racer in NASCAR is at his best at the accident filled tracks (Bristol and the plate tracks). He won at Talladega and Daytona last year. Stenhouse finished fifth at Talladega in the spring.

2. Bubba Wallace – The haves and have nots are equal at Daytona. Bubba finished second in the Daytona 500. In his three Cup races at plate tracks, he has three top 20s.

3. Paul Menard – His Wood Brothers Ford is allied with the Penske Fords. Last year, Menard was one of the best plate racers with finishes of 12th or better in each race. Menard finished sixth in the Daytona 500.

RECENT SUCCESS

Kevin Harvick – In clean air, Harvick was unbeatable at Chicago. He was cruising to a win until he lost a spot on pit road. Third place isn’t that bad.

Clint Bowyer – It looked like Bowyer was going to run away with the Chicago race. After a double penalty, it looked like his race was over. He rebounded and finished in fifth.

Martin Truex, Jr. – A fourth-place finish seems disappointing because Truex had won the last two Chicago races. It’s hard to beat Busch, Larson, and Harvick when you start last.

TRACK HISTORY

Austin Dillon (Spring 2018)
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (Fall 2017)
Kurt Busch (Spring 2017)
Brad Keselowski (Fall 2016)
Denny Hamlin (Spring 2016)

PICK TO WIN

Joey Logano – It worked last time, so I am going back to the well. Logano has the car, the skill, and the experience needed to win at Daytona.
