Best MLB DFS Pitchers for June 7, 2018
Gerrit Cole @ TEX ($14.0k DraftKings, $11.8k FanDuel)
While he’s tough to afford on either main DFS site, Gerrit Cole is the clear-cut top option on this short slate. He’s facing one of the weakest offenses in the Majors, as Texas is posting the third-lowest batting average (.228) with the third-highest K-Rate (25.6%) this season and Cole has the backing of the elite Astros offense. Houston (-195) is heavily favored on the road and the Astros righty-heavy lineup could finally get to Cole’s adversary, aging LHP Cole Hamels.
Mike Leake @ TB ($7.5k DraftKings, $7.6k FanDuel)
If you want to gamble on a SP with more upside, you could take Cole Hamels in a perceived tough matchup at Houston. Hamels has held the Astros to just 2 ER over two outings (12 IP) this season and is coming off another impressive start at the Angels. But he’s far riskier tonight than steady Mariners RHP Mike Leake. The veteran is going strong with a 1.66 ERA and 13.00 K/BB ratio over his last three outings. He’s trended in the right direction with 61 ground ball outs over his last five starts. Leake’s best pitch is his changeup, which helped him strike out eight Rays in a home start last Friday. He should receive plenty of run support tonight with the Mariners facing an inexperienced pitcher.
Jalen Beeks vs. DET ($5.7k DraftKings, $6.0k FanDuel)
Jalen Beeks made a name for himself by spinning two scoreless innings against Team USA in an exhibition game last May, then continued to impress the Red Sox front office by posting a 2.56 ERA and .197 BAA over 10 appearances in AAA this season. The 24-year-old southpaw out of Arkansas draws a tough matchup on paper against the Tigers tonight. They hit lefties well, but he’s quite cheap given the fact Boston (-168) is heavily favored at home again. Beeks flashed plenty of upside with a 12.79 K/9 ratio in the Minors this spring and should be able to get some Tigers hitters to chase tonight. Detroit is sporting the third-highest O-Swing rate (33.2%) in the Majors this season.

Manny Machado @ TOR ($5.3k DraftKings, $4.5k FanDuel)
Even the weak Orioles offense should produce tonight against struggling Blue Jays pitcher Jaime Garcia. The veteran southpaw has been lit up to the tune of a 93.1% Z-Contact Rate and 40.1% hard contact rate while taking a major step back this season. Manny Machado, meanwhile, has been on a tear with 9 HRs, 6 doubles, and a .298 batting average over the last month and is sporting a .323 ISO mark with a 40.7% hard contact rate when facing LHPs this season. While he’s yet to face Garcia in his career, Machado’s upside certainly justifies his healthy projection of 9.2 DK points on RotoQL tonight.
Dee Gordon @ TB ($4.1k DraftKings, $3.3k FanDuel)
Along with the fast turf at Tampa’s Tropicana Field, facing an inexperienced RHP in Ryne Stanek should help Dee Gordon reach base a couple of times. Stanek is making his third start of his young career against a dangerous Mariners lineup and the fact that he’s posted a 12.5% BB Rate over 23 Major League appearances could come into play. Should he issue a free pass to Gordon, the speedster would likely be off and running against battery-mate Wilson Ramos, who ranks dead last amongst qualified catchers with a .053% caught stealing rate this season.
Matt Chapman vs. KC ($3.9k DraftKings, $3.0k FanDuel)
After a promising start to the season, Matt Chapman has slowed his production. But he’s been solid with 5 hits and 2 walks over his last five appearances and is an economical addition to an Athletics stack against RHP Jason Hammel tonight. Hammel is allowing RHBs to hit .312 with a 23% line drive rate and is allowing a 44.1% hard contact rate overall. That’s led RotoQL to project slugging OF Khris Davis for the most DraftKings points (10.2) on this short slate, while Chapman is second among third basemen with a projection of 8.2 DK points.
