MLB DFS DraftKings.com & FanDuel.com Lineups & Picks for May 23, 2018

There are 10 games on the main MLB DFS slate for Wednesday, 5/23/18. Below is a list of our top MLB DFS picks for pitchers, hitters, and stacks to target in Cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. The info below can also be used for creating your daily fantasy baseball strategy at FantasyDraft.

Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a huge part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by an unsuspecting team.

Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing an MLB slate.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for May 23, 2018

Jacob deGrom vs. MIA ($13.2 DK / $10.4 FD)

Despite the recent success from Kyle Freeland and Tyler Skaggs, when they are the two top-priced pitchers on DraftKings and FanDuel, that’s telling you something. Don’t over think it; play Jacob deGrom. Miami is the worst offensive team in baseball (last in runs and ISO), and deGrom is the best pitcher taking the mound this evening. He has a 0.34 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts over his last 26.1 innings.

Kenta Maeda vs. COL ($9.8 DK / $8.7 FD)

The Rockies’ .216 average against right-handed pitching ranks 29th; their .286 wOBA ranks 27th; their 63 wRC+ ranks last; and they have the tenth-highest strikeout rate (24.0%). Even their 29.4% hard hit rate against right-handers ranks last. Kenta Maeda’s swinging strike percentage and K/9 has climbed each season, and he’s sitting at 13.9 percent and 11.05 respectively.

Luiz Gohara @ PHI ($6.6 DK / $6.0 FD)

Luiz Gohara will make his first start of the season after allowing only one run on two hits over seven innings out of the bullpen. Gohara totaled five strikeouts over those seven innings and racked up 31 over 29.1 innings as a starter (five games) last season. The Braves southpaw surrendered only one run over seven innings while striking out nine in a September start against the Phillies last season. The 21-year-old has shown double-digit strikeout numbers at every minor league stop, and the Phillies enter with the fourth highest K-Rate in baseball.

CC Sabathia @ TEX ($7.9 DK / $7.5 FD)

The Texas Rangers have the highest strikeout rate against lefties, and their .225 average ranks 25th. They also rank in the bottom seven in wOBA and wRC+vs LHP. Now, Sabathia is affordable, the matchup is right, and his Yankees will likely give him enough run support for a chance at a win. Sabathia has allowed two or fewer runs in six of his eight starts this season.

Others to consider: David Price, Jon Lester

Best MLB DFS Hitters for May 23, 2018

Kris Bryant @ CLE ($5.2 DK / $4.7 FD)

You don’t need to break the bank at the pitcher position with many of your lineups tonight, so Kris Bryant is certainly worth the price against Adam Plutko, who will be making his second start of the season. Plutko allowed three home runs in his first outing, which came almost three weeks ago, and he allowed 24 home runs over 135.2 AAA innings last season. Plutko has allowed a lot of contact and a lot of fly balls over the course of his professional career. Play your Cubs.

Josh Harrison @ CIN ($3.9 DK / $2.9 FD)

Homer Bailey checks off every single box I look at when targeting bats against a pitcher in DFS. Bailey suffers from a 84 percent contact rate, 42 percent hard hit rate, and 41 percent fly ball rate. As a result, he’s allowed the sixth-most hits (65) and 12 home runs. He’s also only striking out 5.43 per nine, while walking 3.4 per nine. All of the Pirates are in play, and they are easy on the wallet considering their .320 wOBA against right-handed pitching (good for tenth best). Josh Bell had 18 homers off righties last season, and Gregory Poloanco leads this year’s Pirates with seven bombs. Even cheaper is Josh Harrison, who just returned from the DL, and has four hits in his two games from the leadoff spot. He launched 10 homers off right-handed pitching last season.

Trey Mancini @ CWS ($3.7 DK / $3.1 FD)

Trey Mancini checks in as RotoQL’s second-highest projected first baseman on DraftKings. Also, he’s by far their best value on FanDuel at the OF position. Dylan Covey was hit hard (47%) and often (89%) in his only start this season (7 hits & 4 ER) against the Royals. Covey allowed 20 home runs and 60 runs in only 70 innings last season, with an 86 percent contact rate. Mancini leads off, has six home runs this season, and had 19 off righties in 2017.

Andrelton Simmons @ TOR ($3.7 DK / $3.5 FD)

According to RotoQL, Andrelton Simmons has the second-highest projected point total at the shortstop position, just behind Manny Machado, who is a great play himself but a bit more expensive. Simmons’ 55 hits rank inside the top 15 overall and top 10 in the American League. Plus, Aaron Sanchez has issued 49 walks over his last 86 innings, which have resulted in 42 runs over that span. The Angels are not a team to which you want to give free passes, especially at the top of their order with Simmons hitting in that five-six spot.

Others to consider: Wilson Contreras, Francisco Cervelli, Jose Abreu, Josh Bell, Jonathan Schoop, Scooter Gennett, Justin Turner, Josh Donaldson, Rafael Devers, Manny Machado, Javier Baez, Gregory Polanco, Aaron Hicks, Kyle Schwarber
