MLB DFS DraftKings.com & FanDuel.com Lineups & Picks for May 21, 2018
There are nine games on the main MLB DFS slate for Monday, 5/21/18. Below is a list of our top MLB DFS picks for pitchers, hitters, and stacks to target in Cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. The info below can also be used for creating your daily fantasy baseball strategy at FantasyDraft.
Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a huge part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by an unsuspecting team.
Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing an MLB slate.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for May 21, 2018
Gio Gonzalez vs. SD ($11.9 DK / $8.8 FD)
The Padres enter with the third-highest strikeout rate (26.1%), seventh-fewest runs scored (185), third-lowest average (.229), and second-lowest wOBA (.291). Now, Gio Gonzalez allowed only one run on five hits over six innings against San Diego two outings ago. He fanned eight batters in his third-highest scoring output this season on FanDuel. You’ll save a few bucks if you go Gio on FD.
Walker Buehler vs. COL ($9.3 DK / $9.5 FD)
Colorado is a much different team on the road. There, the Rockies’ .221 average ranks 27th, and their .294 wOBA ranks 24th. Overall, they have the eighth-highest strikeout rate, and their .291 wOBA against righties ranks 27th. They also have the lowest hard hit rate against RHP. As for Walker Buehler, he has an impressive 34:9 K:BB ratio over 27 innings with a 2.67 ERA. He’s allowed two or fewer runs in four of his five starts and has two scoreless outings on his resume as well. The 23-year-old has allowed only one home run thanks to an impressive 53.7 percent ground ball rate. It’s a bit surprising Buehler’s the most expensive pitcher on FanDuel, but you’ll save some cash on DraftKings.
Zack Greinke @ MIL ($12.1 DK / $9.2 FD)
Zack Greinke will face his former team for the second straight outing, and he was just fine against them last week. He allowed only one run on four hits over six innings while striking out five. It was the third straight start where Greinke allowed only one run and the fifth time he’s allowed only one run this season. The Brewers are now inside the top 10 in strikeout rate thanks to the fifth-highest mark (24.6%) over the last two weeks.
Jose Berrios vs. DET ($8.5 DK / $8.4 FD)
Jose Berrios has allowed four-plus runs in five of his nine starts this season and at least four runs in four of his last five outings. That alone may push people away, but in his other four combined starts (30.1 innings), Berrios allowed only one run on 11 total hits. The Twins’ pitcher racked up 10 strikeouts in his last start to bring his total up to 50 over 53.1 innings. Even more impressive, though, is his 1.69 BB/9. Take the low discount and high ceiling in what is a good matchup against the Tigers.
Others to consider: Nick Pivetta, Masahiro Tanaka

Best MLB DFS Hitters for May 21, 2018
Paul Goldschmidt @ MIL ($4.2 DK / $3.6 FD)
Paul Goldschmidt’s price on FanDuel is hard to pass up, especially when you consider the matchup with Chase Anderson in hitter-friendly Miller Park. Anderson has an 82.1% contact rate, 46.5% fly ball rate, and he’s allowed 10 home runs (eight at home) already. Anderson’s dip in velocity has resulted in a much lower strikeout rate and higher walk rate.
Yoan Moncada vs. BAL ($4.1 DK / $3.9 FD)
Andrew Cashner enters his matchup with the White Sox supporting an 84 percent contact rate and a 42 percent fly ball rate. He’s allowed 11 home runs, 51 hits, and 24 walks this season. Cashner has allowed at least three runs and a home run in six straight starts. Yoan Moncada has a .309 average against right-handed pitching compared to a .162 average against left-handed pitching, and all six of his home runs have come against righties. It’s a big reason why he leads off against RHPs. Matt Davidson has also been much better against righties.
Aaron Hicks @ TEX ($3.8 DK / $3.0 FD)
Aaron Hicks is one of the cheapest Yankee bats, and they project as a pretty solid stack on RotoQL. Bartolo Colon has a 2.82 ERA, but 4.48 FIP thanks to a high LOB% and low BABIP. Colon has the highest contact rate (88.3%) among starters with 10 innings pitched, and he’s allowed nine home runs. Hicks hit in the clean-up spot yesterday and picked up his third straight multi-hit game. Didi Gregorius has missed the last two games and may not get that third spot back when he returns. He’s also someone you should consider if he gets back in the lineup as a cheap contrarian play given the matchup.
Danny Valencia @ CWS ($3.5 DK / $3.1 FD)
The Orioles are very much in play tonight against lefty Hector Santiago. While Manny Machado is worth the price, there’s terrific value on Jonathan Schoop along with upside when it comes to Trey Mancini and Danny Valencia. The latter has a career .311 average against southpaws. Valencia has three home runs off lefties this season and should find himself in the lineup this evening. Santiago enters with a 52% fly ball rate and 49 percent mark for his career. He allowed 15 home runs over 70.1 innings last season and 62 in his previous two seasons to go along with five already in 2018. That’s a lot of bombs.
Eddie Rosario vs. DET ($4.0 DK / $3.3 FD)
Eddie Rosario led the Twins with 48 hits off lefties last season, and he had seven home runs. He has two homers off southpaws this season and checks in as one of the better values according to RotoQL. Tonight’s opponent, Blaine Hardy, has surrendered two home runs over eight innings this season and seven over 33.1 innings last season. Hardy has only made one start over his 169 appearances, and it was earlier this year which he failed to get out of the fourth inning.
Others to consider: J.T. Realmuto, Devin Mesoraco, Jose Abreu, Trey Mancini, Jonathan Schoop, Rougned Odor, Matt Davidson, Justin Turner, Manny Machado, Didi Gregorius, Chris Taylor, Tommy Pham, Giancarlo Stanton, Juan Soto (batting 6th in MLB debut)
