Please note the advice below is relevant for daily fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, and lots of other factors. This is important to consider when constructing a roster. Remember that more than in other sports, variance is a huge part of baseball. Even Mike Trout can go 0-for-4 on a given night, and Max Scherzer can get lit up by an unsuspecting team.

Weather can also play a huge role in MLB DFS on a nightly basis, and lineups are constantly shifting. So always, always check the starting lineups and weather reports when playing an MLB slate.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers for April 30, 2018

Jake Arrieta @ MIA ($10.9 DK / $8.8 FD)

Jake Arrieta has by far the best matchup out of all the top-priced pitchers on the slate. The Marlins rank 30th in average and runs. They haven’t hit the 10-win mark yet and have the eighth-highest strikeout rate. On top of that, Arrieta has allowed two or fewer runs in all four of his starts, and just the one in his last two outings. The righty is a great Cash play but will likely be pretty chalky in tournaments. Even still, he’s solid and surprisingly the third-highest priced pitcher on the FanDuel board.

Jeff Samardzija vs. SD ($8.7 DK / $7.9 FD)

Jeff Samardzija also checks in underpriced on FanDuel given the matchup against the San Diego Padres, who have the highest strikeout rate in baseball. Make no mistake, Samardzija has not been good in his two starts: 8.2 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, and 7 BB. He only lasted 3.2 innings in his last showing, so it may keep his ownership down. The Giants will likely provide Samardzija with enough run support if he can just limit the damage himself.

Aaron Sanchez @ MIN ($6.5 DK / $6.5 FD)

Aaron Sanchez only has a career 6.92 K/9. But he’s battled injuries over the last two seasons, and he’s excelled in good matchups in the past. Sanchez fanned seven against the White Sox in his second start of the season and is fresh off an eight-strikeout performance against the Red Sox (who don’t strike out). Sanchez currently has a career best 74 percent contact rate and 10.7 swinging strike percentage. The Twins are a top 10 strikeout team and as you’ll see below, Lance Lynn has not been good to start his Minnesota career.

Others to consider: Zack Greinke, Eduardo Rodriguez

Best MLB DFS Hitters for April 30, 2018

Lorenzo Cain @ CIN ($4.6 DK / $3.9 FD)

Lorenzo Cain’s .538 wOBA and .440 average vs. LHP are top six marks in the league. He has five doubles and a homer off lefties this season and a career .307 average against southpaws. In 2016, Cain hit .371 against left-handers, and tonight he gets a struggling Brandon Finnegan. The Reds pitcher has allowed 18 hits, 11 runs, three homers, and nine walks over 12.1 innings. His 2.19 WHIP is the ninth-highest mark in the league, and he has an alarming 80.5 contact percentage to go along with a 27 percent line drive rate. Cain is locked in as the Brewers’ leadoff man in what is a great team stack.

C.J. Cron @ DET ($3.9 DK / $3.6 FD)

C.J. Cron has hits in 15 of his last 16 games, plus six extra base hits (4 HR) in his last eight games. The former Halo is averaging the third-most fantasy points at 1B over the last five games and checks in as one of RotoQL’s better values. The hot start has him hitting in the two spot, but it’s his 45 percent fly ball rate (44 last season) that makes him intriguing. It’s also a match made in heaven as Jordan Zimmerman’s fly ball rate has jumped from 42 percent to 47 over the past season. He’s already surrendered five home runs after allowing 29 in 160 innings last season.

Yangervis Solarte @ MIN ($3.4 DK / $3.2 FD)

Lance Lynn isn’t this bad, but he’s a prime target to pick on until he turns it around. Lynn has allowed at least five runs in three of his four starts, plus a total of 18 walks over his 18.2 innings. Maybe he is this bad. Kevin Pillar leads the Blue Jays in hits and is feeling it of late with three home runs in his last two games, and Teoscar Hernandez has all the tools, but Yangervis Solarte’s price stands out. Solarte is hitting in the four spot, has seven bombs, and is RotoQL’s fifth-highest projected third basemen and best value at the position.

Marwin Gonzalez ($3.2 DK / $3.1 FD)

Marwin Gonzalez has hits in eight of his last 10 games and multi-hit games in five of those contests. Hitting in the seventh spot is not ideal, but he’s had some RBI opportunities of late that he’s cashed in on (eight in last 10 games). It’s a good lineup, which is why he collected 90 RBI last season. Sonny Gray has an awful 2.14 WHIP to start the season thanks to 29 hits and 16 walks over 21 innings. A Houston stack is expensive, but Gonzalez and Alex Bregman are affordable.

Others to consider: Buster Posey, Joey Votto, Ryan Braun, Daniel Robertson, Cesar Hernandez, Kris Bryant, Evan Longoria, Trevor Story, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., J.D. Martinez, Nick Castellanos, Gregory Polanco, Jorge Soler, Alex Verdugo
