Best NBA DFS Picks for March 5, 2018

Guards

Devin Booker @ MIA ($8.6k DraftKings, $8.2k FanDuel)
Ironically, it could be the Heat that cool off Devin Booker given Miami’s defensive prowess. At this price tag on DK, he’s almost a must-play until we see him come down to earth. Booker is averaging 34 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 4.6 APG while shooting 45.1 percent from the floor over his last five appearances. With Tyler Johnson (quad) and Wayne Ellington (quad) both iffy, he could see some of Dwyane Wade defensively tonight. Booker is fast emerging as one of the best pure scorers in the game and is under priced.

Isaiah Thomas vs. POR ($5.7k DraftKings, $6.1k FanDuel)
This is a prime game to target. While he isn’t listed as the top guard play, Damian Lillard ($9.7k, $9.8k) remains a strong tournament option to pair with offensive-minded guards such as Isaiah Thomas. Seemingly finding his stride as Lonzo Ball makes his way back into the Lakers’ lineup, Thomas has produced 50 points and 13 assists while seeing a spike in playing time over his last two appearances. Portland doesn’t play with too much pace. Still, they could get into a track meet at Staples Center against the league’s highest-tempo team.

D.J. Augustin @ UTA ($4.8k DraftKings, $4.9k FanDuel)
While he struggled initially after taking over the starting PG gig in Orlando, D.J. Augustin has shown consistency with averages of 14.3 PPG and 7.3 APG over his last four appearances. Utah is tough to score on down low. Yet the Jazz are somewhat vulnerable on the perimeter with Ricky Rubio guarding opposing PGs. At this price tag, you’re almost betting Orlando stays competitive on the road long enough to allow Augustin to meet or exceed value once more.

Note: Terry Rozier ($4.9k, $4.5k) becomes a fantastic value with Kyrie Irving (knee) a surprise scratch for Boston. Rozier posted a triple double followed by a career high 31 points in two spot starts for Irving last month.

Others to Consider: Donovan Mitchell, Lonzo Ball, Ricky Rubio, Kris Dunn, Ben McLemore, Dwyane Wade, Marcus Smart, Cory Joseph

Blake Griffin vs. CLE ($7.9k DraftKings, $8.0k FanDuel)
It appears there was just a lull in his production and now Blake Griffin is going to post his usual numbers as a key member of the Pistons’ offense. He was on pace for a triple-double in a blowout win over Milwaukee and one assist shy of one in Orlando on Friday. Then, he dropped 31 points against a tough Miami defense on zero days rest. For now, it’s safe to trust Blake at this DK price against the Cavaliers’ papier-mache defense.

JaMychal Green @ SA ($6.8k DraftKings, $6.1k FanDuel)
Depending on how injury news shakes out, JaMychal Green could serve as a popular play tonight. Marc Gasol (ankle) is questionable and could be approaching shut-down mode toward the end of a lost season. Jarell Martin ($5.3k, $4.7k) would serve as a solid mid-tier option as well if Gasol is out, but Green has more upside. Even in his return from an illness, the Alabama product managed a double-double with a notable seven assists on Saturday. Both he and Martin weigh in as solid options because the Spurs are extremely thin up front right now.

Bobby Portis vs. BOS ($6.2k DraftKings, $7.4k FanDuel)
With the Bulls moving in an extremely youthful direction, Bobby Portis has a much higher floor. He’s averaging 19.8 PPG and 7.2 RPG over his last five appearances while logging a puzzling 26.1 MPG. That said, he saw 34 minutes in helping the Bulls get past tanking Dallas on Friday. With ample rest heading into a matchup against a Celtics team that struggles to rebound at times, Portis is a solid Cash play on DK. He boasts more upside in GPP formats than fellow forward Lauri Markkanen ($5.9k, $5.9k).

Reggie Bullock @ CLE ($4.6k DraftKings, $4.9k FanDuel)
Stanley Johnson has moved to the bench and is struggling while Reggie Bullock is taking off on a Pistons team devoid of wing veterans. That’s been the case since trading Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris to the Clippers. He’s playing 32.9 MPG while averaging 14.4 PPG over his last 14 appearances, and that’s an impressive floor for a player in this price range. And it doesn’t hurt for a shooter to face the Cavs’ 28th-rated defense, which gives up the second-most 3PTM (11.8) per game this season.

Others to Consider: LeBron James, Larry Nance, Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Brandon Ingram, Davis Bertans (if no Aldridge)

Center

Hassan Whiteside vs. PHO ($7.4k DraftKings, $7.5k FanDuel)
His playing time has been surprisingly scarce lately, but Hassan Whiteside should see plenty of burn tonight against the Suns’ lumbering duo of Alex Len and Tyson Chandler (questionable, rest). Whiteside is sporting a ridiculous 26.2 percent total rebounding rate this season and averaging 12.3 PPG to go along with 12.8 RPG over his last 10 appearances. Phoenix is playing at the fastest pace in the league over the last month and giving up the second-most RPG (45.6), most PPG (113.2), and most BPG (5.8) to the opposition this year.

Greg Monroe @ CHI ($4.4k DraftKings, $3.9k FanDuel)
His production over the last two games is no fluke, as Greg Monroe simply needed some time to acclimate to his new team in Boston. He’s a versatile big who works well alongside Al Horford or as a stand-alone center. Monroe should serve as a decent value against a young Bulls team that’s benching its best big man in Robin Lopez. The Celtics (-9) are pretty hefty road favorites, and if this turns into a blowout, Monroe could wind up finishing the game.

Others to Consider: Andre Drummond, Rudy Gobert, Nikola Vucevic, Myles Turner
