Best NBA DFS Picks for March 3, 2018
Damian Lillard vs. OKC ($9.4k DraftKings, $9.7k FanDuel)
It’s a bit repetitive to recommend Damian Lillard essentially every time he plays, but he continues to draw plus matchups, and DK seemingly refuses to raise his price tag. He’s exceeded value in four of his last five appearances and enters a potential shootout at home tonight against Russell Westbrook and the Thunder. Lillard went for 36 points and 13 assists on 10-of-18 FG shooting in a meeting with OKC earlier this season. And he is 33-for-68 (.485) from the field over his last three appearances. The star PG is forced to fire away frequently as the primary option for Portland.
Kyrie Irving @ HOU ($8.5k DraftKings, $8.5k FanDuel)
He’s come out of the ASB on fire with 90 points on 32-of-53 (.607) shooting. Plus, Kyrie Irving produced a whopping 50 DK points over just 25 minutes of run in a blowout win on Wednesday. Now, the Celtics travel to Houston to face the hottest team in the league, and he’ll have to provide a herculean effort to keep Boston in the game. Still, Houston’s giving up the eighth-most PPG (25.27) to opposing PGs over the last month. What’s more, Chris Paul isn’t the lockdown defender he used to be. Regardless, Kyrie can get buckets against any adversary.
Eric Gordon vs. BOS ($4.7k DraftKings, $4.6k FanDuel)
While James Harden ($10.7k, $11.2k) is clearly the premier play on the Rockets, he might not fit into your lineups easily. And he’ll draw tons of attention from the Celtics’ elite defense. Boston ranks atop the league in defensive rating and opponent 3-point shooting percentage (.338), but the Rockets attempt and make the most 3s in the NBA, and Eric Gordon can drain from anywhere. He hit 4-of-14 attempts from long range while netting 24 points in a meeting with Boston earlier this season and is much cheaper now as he returns from a brief illness.
Others to Consider: James Harden, Lonzo Ball, Jamal Murray, Evan Fournier, Ricky Rubio, Dejounte Murray, Isaiah Thomas, D.J. Augustin, Mario Chalmers
Paul George @ POR ($8.7k DraftKings, $8.7k FanDuel)
It’s tough to afford LeBron James with all the premier guard options tonight. But Paul George is a great GPP play to use alongside Damian Lillard in a game with a 213-point over/under. Portland is a bit vulnerable on the wing and could be without solid defender Mo Harkless (knee). Then, George has averaged a solid 24.5 PPG over two meetings with the Blazers this season. Clearly the secondary option on a high-scoring Thunder team, PG played 42 minutes in his last outing and adds upside as the league leader in steals.
Marcus Smart @ HOU ($4.7k DraftKings, $4.7k FanDuel)
While he’s technically a SG on FanDuel, Marcus Smart should see plenty of run at SF tonight. He’s the Celtics’ best defensive option against James Harden, and that’s part of the reason he produced 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals/blocks over 34 minutes in a meeting with Houston earlier this year. Smart’s yet to log big minutes since returning from his hand injury, but the Celtics haven’t gotten into any close games recently either, so perhaps that changes tonight.
Davis Bertans vs. LAL ($4.4k DraftKings, $4.1k FanDuel)
The Spurs are extremely thin up front right now with Kawhi Leonard out, LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) doubtful, and Pau Gasol (knee) questionable. Facing the high-scoring Lakers, both Davis Bertans and Joffrey Lauvergne ($4.3k, $4.2k) are candidates to exceed value by a solid margin while playing 25-plus minutes. Bertans is a little more versatile, which bodes well for his prospects against a team that leads the league in pace. Also, consider Rudy Gay ($5.7k, $4.8k) as a mid-tier option after he dropped 19 points in his last outing.
Others to Consider: LeBron James, Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Larry Nance Jr., Kyle Anderson, Jarell Martin, Al-Farouq Aminu, Skal Labissiere
Nikola Jokic @ CLE ($9.6k DraftKings, $10.0k FanDuel)
Consider Nikola Jokic in all formats once again as he draws a great matchup in Cleveland tonight. Despite recent moves, the Cavs still rank 28th in defensive rating and cough up the second-most APG (25.8). Jokic is rocking an impressive 29.8 percent assist rate and averaging 21.8 PPG, 11.3 RPG, and 9 APG over his last 10 appearances. He should be able to carve up the Cavs’ undisciplined defense from the high post.
Clint Capela vs. BOS ($7.0k DraftKings, $7.9k FanDuel)
We’ll leave you with one more play from the nationally televised Celtics-Rockets game: Clint Capela. The Rockets played without their young center and defeated Boston earlier in the season and are an even fiercer team when he’s active. An aggressive trapping defensive team like the Celtics can get burnt by pick-and-roll finishers. We saw as much when they yielded a career-high 30 points to DeAndre Jordan before the ASB. If Boston sells out to try and stop Harden, Capela should reap the benefits.
Others to Consider: Andre Drummond, Rudy Gobert, Jusuf Nurkic, Mason Plumlee, Joffrey Lauvergne
