February 9, 2018 NHL DFS Lineup Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel

There are eight games on the 2/9/18 NHL DFS slate tonight, and as always keep an eye on who gets the start between the pipes as a few backup goalies are expected to get the call. The picks and plays below are for DraftKings and FanDuel, but the same strategy can be applied at Draft Fantasy.

Feel free to hit me up with any questions on Twitter at @chrismeaney.

Sean Monahan @ NYR ($6.5 DK / $7.7 FD)
Sean Monahan has at least a goal in four straight games and there’s a good chance he’ll extend that streak against a leaky Rangers squad that has allowed four goals or more in four of their last five games. In fact, the 61 goals allowed by New York since January first are the second most in the league, and the 549 shots allowed are the third most. Monahan has 33 shots in his last 7 games, and this recent run of seven points over his last seven games has him at just about a point per game pace on the season.

Evgeni Malkin @ DAL ($7.4 DK / $9.1 FD)
Evgeni Malkin is probably a decent fade in tournaments on FanDuel because of his price, but he’s a go on DraftKings. Malkin leads all skaters in 2018 with 16 goals and 26 points. He enters tonight on a five-game point streak where he has nine goals, 13 points and 21 shots.

Dylan Larkin @ NYY ($6.0 DK / $6.2 FD)
The only team worse defensively than the Rangers are the Islanders. New York has allowed a league-high 644 shots and 62 goals since January first. They allowed four to Buffalo last night in a 4-3 loss, and have allowed at least four in four of their past five games. This is more about New York than it is Detroit, but Dylan Larkin leads his team in ice time over the past 30 days, and he has 11 shots in his last four games. He plays in all situations.

Others to consider: Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Strome & Jordan Staal

Rickard Rakell vs. EDM ($6.8 DK / $6.9 FD)
Rickard Rakell is on quite the run with goals in three straight games, and points in five straight. He has eight goals and 15 points in his last 10 games, and has failed to hit the scoresheet only twice over that span. He has 16 shots on goal in his last four games, and has played north of 19 minutes in three of those four. The Oilers rank inside the top five in goals against.

Bryan Rust @ DAL ($4.2 DK / $4.0 FD)
Bryan Rust can save you some cash, plus he’s not a bad option as he has three goals and five points in his last five games. Rust is benefiting from playing alongside Sidney Crosby as he’s hit the 21 minute and 18 minute mark in his last two games. He’s even getting some power play time. Rust is really taken advantage of the playing time, so should you.

Tyler Toffoli @ FLA ($5.2 DK / $5.6 FD)
Tyler Toffoli has zero goals and just one assist in the last 11 games, so why play him? Well, we know he can put the puck in the net as he has 18 goals on the season, and is a former 30 goal scorer. A matchup against the Panthers is just what he needs to break out of his slump. Florida has allowed the seventh most goals per game, and the second most shots per game.

Micheal Ferland @ NYR ($5.1 DK / $5.4 FD)
Micheal Ferland is the cheapest of the Flames’ top line that consists of Ferland, Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Ferland is showing last year was no fluke as he has 20 goals on the season, and points in three of his last four games. Not only is Ferland on the top line, he’s on the top power play unit as well.

Others to consider: Anthony Mantha, Teuvo Teravainen, Jake Guentzel & Michael Cammalleri

Dustin Byfuglien vs. STL ($5.4 DK / $5.3 FD)
Dustin Byfuglien’s price is still not high enough. In fact, it dropped $500 on DK since he last played, and in his last game he scored a goal and had an assist. He has five points in his last six games, and has played at least 23 minutes in all six of those games as he continues to log more minutes with the injury to Jacob Trouba.

Dougie Hamilton @ NYR ($5.2 DK / $5.6 FD)
Look, the Rangers are checked out. They just released a letter to their fans on their plan to rebuild. Get as many Flames in your lineup as you can, including Dougie Hamilton who has hit the scoresheet eight times in his last 10 games. He’s coming into tonight’s game with six points in his last six games, which includes a power play point.

Trevor Daley @ NYI ($3.3 DK / $4.3 FD)
Trevor Daley is a decent punt play at the position. As you can guess by the players suggested above, the two New York teams playing this evening have the highest over/under total on the board. Daley plays in to the 20 minute mark most nights, he has 13 shots in his last four games, and he has three points in his last six games. He also gets power play time.

Others to consider: Jake Muzzin, Cam Fowler & Justin Faulk

Mike Smith @ NYR ($8.3 DK / $8.2 FD)
DraftKings has Mike Smith as the highest priced goalie of the night. He’s way down the list on FanDuel where he is a much better play. Smith has won eight of his last 13 games, and three of those five losses came in overtime.

Darcy Kuemper @ FLA ($7.9 DK / $8.7 FD)
Keep an eye on who gets the call in net for the Kings tonight as it may be Darcy Kuemper again. Kuemper has been in net for the last two games and he’s won them both. He’s actually won four straight games, allowing only three goals in the process. Kuemper has two shutouts in his last three outings, so Los Angeles will likely continue to ride the hot hand.

Scott Darling vs. VAN ($7.8 DK / $7.3 FD)
It’s safe to say the Scott Darling experiment has not worked out in Carolina so far. Darling has a 9-14-6 record with a 3.06 goals against average, and a .892 save percentage. He’s allowed 11 goals in his last three outings. I was at the ACC when the Maple Leafs put up an eight spot on him, just seven starts ago. It was not pretty. All of that should result in a lower ownership number in tournaments. This is a winnable game at home against the Canucks, who rank 26th in goals for. Look at the savings on FanDuel!
