FanDuel.com NFL DFS Week 9 Stack Picks & Plays
Week 9 of NFL DFS is upon us, and everyone is looking to cash in on the big daily fantasy football money at FanDuel. Every week, we’ll bring you our top DFS NFL picks for each position and recommend them as Cash Game and/or GPP plays. And to keep up with all things PlayPicks, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
Cash Game options generally come with less risk and a more stable floor, while the best GPP plays can bring tons of risk but also upside. Taking a chance on players with high ceilings and low floors is a good way to separate from a large tournament field.
As with any daily fantasy sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might perform better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, gameflow, and more. This is important when constructing a roster. And if you’re looking for a new way to play DFS NFL, be sure and give DRAFT a try.
Best Week 9 DFS NFL Stacks on FanDuel
Tom Savage/DeAndre Hopkins vs. IND ($6.0k and $9.1k FanDuel) – GPP
With the awful news that Deshaun Watson (torn acl) will miss the rest of the season, Tom Savage is slated to start and he can at least make for a cheap stacking partner with DeAndre Hopkins, who has proven to be talented enough to catch passes from all QBs in his career. Indy’s pass defense has been abysmal this year, and we covered that in our main article for FanDuel picks for Week 9. Yet now this is a contrarian stack with Savage at the helm and Hopkins ownership rate is sure to plummet as a result.
Derek Carr/Amari Cooper/Michael Crabtree @ MIA ($7.8k, $6.9k and $7.1k FanDuel) – Cash/GPP
It’s a bit of a cop out listing both of Derek Carr’s top targets on the outside, but one or both of those receivers should have a big game against a couple of very inexperienced corners. Carr was unbelievable in his last prime-time game before cooling off in a tough spot at Buffalo. Now, he faces the Dolphins 28th-ranked pass defense under the lights on Sunday night. Miami ranks 26th in DVOA pass defense against the opposition’s top receiver and 28th against the No. 2 option, so both WRs are in a great spot. Let’s just call Amari Cooper the preferred stacking partner in GPPs while Michael Crabtree is safe enough to use in Cash Games.
Dak Prescott/Dez Bryant vs. KC ($8.2k, $7.7k FanDuel) – GPP
With any luck, Dez Bryant’s (knee) questionable tag, combined with his lackluster production this year and the fact that Ezekiel Elliott will actually play this Sunday, will keep his ownership rate way down. He still has the potential to blow up in this spot as Dak Prescott looks to grease the squeaky wheel following Bryant’s reaction to only seeing six targets last week. The Chiefs’ unit ranks 29th in DVOA pass defense against the opposition’s top receiver. In his sole meeting with the Chiefs, Bryant went bonkers for 141 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions, and he draws an even better matchup this season against (somewhat) overrated CB Marcus Peters and human turnstile Phillip Gaines.
Drew Brees/Michael Thomas/Mike Evans/Doug Martin @ NO ($8.3k/$7.6k and $8.5k/$6.7k FanDuel) – GPP
Let’s try Drew Brees at home thing one more time in a very juicy matchup against the reeling Bucs pass defense. There’s a veritable bevy of options to choose from in the NFC South contest with the highest implied total (50.5 points) in Week 9, led by the Saints 28.5-point team total. Michael Thomas should draw a feast of targets.
On the other side, Mike Evans should be used to facing elite coverage at this point based on his brutal early-season schedule, so a matchup against surging young Saints corners isn’t much of a worry. On the ground, Doug Martin is due for increased production against a team ranked 29th in DVOA run defense this year.
Leonard Fournette/Jaguars Defense vs. CIN ($8.6k and $5.3k FanDuel) – Cash/GPP
Leonard Fournette (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 9, and there should be no concerns whatsoever about his workload as he returns after two weeks off. The Jaguars’ elite defense pairs nicely with its workhorse running back, as that unit ranks atop the league in DVOA pass defense and has the weapons to stop A.J. Green with elite CBs Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye leading the way. The Bengals’ offense is limited behind their top receiver and only managed 276 total yards against the Colts weak pass defense last week. This is clearly a tough spot for them on the road.
Adrian Peterson/Cardinals Defense @ SF ($6.8k and $4.9k FanDuel) – GPP
We’re high on Adrian Peterson this week, especially on FanDuel, where TDs count for more because there are fewer PPR points and bonuses accrued for receptions. He’s due to bounce back after negative gameflow prevented him from earning more than 11 carries in a 33-0 loss to the Rams two weeks ago. This Cardinals defense will likely bounce back along with him if Arizona can get ahead. The 49ers are 29th in PPG (16.6) and -3 in turnovers this year. The potential absence of Pierre Garcon (neck) and the weak play of statuesque QB C.J. Beathard (Jimmy Garoppolo is not ready to start) increases the prospects of Arizona’s underperforming defense.
