DFS MLB Lineups for September 16, 2017 at Draftkings.com & Fanduel.com
For this daily fantasy baseball season, each day there’s a good slate of DFS MLB games, we’ll be writing up a group of pitchers and hitters that we’re considering for our cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. We’ll also provide a list of stacks to consider, MLB start times, starting pitchers, and game run totals to give you a good idea of where the fantasy goodness might come from on a given night. As with any DFS sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to matchup, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster. And if you’re looking for new ways to play DFS, be sure and give BOOM Fantasy and DRAFT a try!
A quick reminder while playing DFS MLB, don’t forget baseball is a game of variance. You can make a really solid lineup and still fall short of the cash line. Even Corey Kluber can get lit up, and Mike Trout can still go 0 for 4. Baseball is funny like that. Trust the process and know that if you’re playing quality lineups, you’ll be a winner in the long term.
Another thing to remember outside of making sure your player is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic routine. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for September 16, 2017
Madison Bumgarner vs. ARI ($11.0k DraftKings, $9.2k FanDuel)
You could play it safe and pay up for Zack Greinke in this contest, but Bumgarner comes with more upside and likely a far lower ownership rate after struggling consecutive outings. The White Sox offense has strangely been elite against LHP and the Cardinals are a savvy veteran club, so Bumgarner’s last two outings can potentially be dismissed ahead of a rematch with a D’Backs team that he held to 2 ER on 5 hits over 7 strong IP in Arizona on Aug 26. Arizona is ranked 26th in batting average (.238) with the fourth-highest K-Rate (24.8%) against LHP this year and Bumgarner is a fierce competitor with a history of dominating at spacious AT&T Park.
Cole Hamels @ LAA ($8.5k DraftKings, $8.1k FanDuel)
Another lefty who comes with plenty of risk tonight, Hamels could also pay off big time in GPP formats. He snapped out of his funk with a Quality Start against the Mariners last Monday and could find success in his 5th start against the Angels after going 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in his previous 4 outings against Anaheim. The Angels are dead last in the Majors with a .284 wOBA and feeble .108 ISO Mark against the platoon this year, while Mike Trout is just 4-for-17 and current Angels are hitting a combined .215 with more K’s (68) than hits (64) in their careers against Hamels.
Marco Estrada @ MIN ($7.3k DraftKings, $7.6k FanDuel)
Probably the safest play you can find in the value range tonight, Estrada’s mostly cheap on DK because he’s facing a red-hot Twins team. However he represents a tough matchup for Minnesota because he takes advantage of aggressive hitters by utilizing his changeup quite often, which has helped him hold lefties to a .227 average and .304 wOBA this season. Estrada was lights out in each of his last two appearances against the O’s and Red Sox to post a 1.50 ERA and .167 BAA over 12 IP and he managed to post a Quality Start against the Twins just three weeks ago.
Other pitchers to consider: Zack Greinke, Jacob deGrom, Ben Lively, Zach Davies, R.A. Dickey
Best DFS MLB Hitters for September 16, 2017
Charlie Blackmon vs. SD ($5.6k DraftKings, $4.8k FanDuel)
The Rockies welcome RHP Jordan Lyles to Coors Field tonight for the second game of this series and they could feast on the vulnerable young righty. Lyles is allowing LHB to hit .358 with a .430 wOBA and 2.52 HR/9 ratio this season, while his delivery also leaves him open to potential stolen bases. Blackmon’s been a threat in both regards with 34 HRs and SB this year and of course he’s been elite with a .388/.463/.566 slash line and 51 XBH over 71 home games this year.
Rougned Odor @ LAA ($3.5k DraftKings, $2.7k FanDuel)
Odor has been a true boom-bust option this year with a .213 batting average, yet he’s also provided pop with 29 HRs, 22 XBH and 19 SB. He has plenty of upside tonight against struggling rookie RHP Parker Bridwell, who is giving up a 1.83 HR/9 ratio and 39% Hard Contact Rate when facing the platoon this season. Odor snapped his power drought with a 3-run HR in a win over Seattle on Thursday night and he’s worth a look as a GPP play given his low price tag on this short slate.
Teoscar Hernandez @ MIN ($2.8k DraftKings, $2.5k FanDuel)
He’s becoming a staple of this column for good reason, as Hernandez can provide a ton of salary relief on both main DFS sites to provide lineup flexibility. He happens to draw a mouth-watering matchup tonight against LHP Adalberto Mejia, who is rocking a 1.66 WHIP with a .303 BAA and 1.39 HR/9 ratio at home this season. Hernandez posted a monstrous 1.509 OPS by launching 5 HRs over 28 at-bats in the AAA level against lefties and he’s done nothing but produce since getting called up to the big leagues.
Other hitters to consider: Rhys Hoskins, Gerardo Parra, Adrian Beltre, Mark Reynolds, Asdrubal Cabrera, Kevin Pillar, Odubel Herrera, Robinson Chirinos, Ryon Healy, Orlando Arcia
9/16/17 DFS MLB STACKS
Rockies vs Jordan Lyles
Of course a Rockies stack is in play in the second game of a series at Coors against a struggling young pitcher. Lyles has been most vulnerable against the platoon, while struggling overall with an 8.03 ERA and 2.12 HR/9 ratio on the road this year. Because he depends on his breaking ball, the thin air in Denver will likely affect him negatively, so feel free to add lefties Carlos Gonzalez and/or Gerardo Parra to lineups with Blackmon in them. Nolan Arenado is an elite play despite drawing a RvR matchup and Alexi Amarista could fill in at SS for the injured Trevor Story to provide some value.
Brewers vs Adam Conley
He’s been rather cold over the last couple of months, but Ryan Braun could lead a Brewers lineup that’s been very dangerous against lefties. Conley’s given up 14 ER and 6 HRs over his last 4 outings and he’s posting a 38.2% Hard Contact Rate against the platoon with a 1.54 HR/9 ratio since the ASB. Hernan Perez is a cheaper OF option (or 3B on DK) that has excelled against lefties, as has speedster Keon Broxton, while we might see Jesus Aguilar start at 1B and Orland Arcia could provide some salary relief if starting at shortstop.
Other Stacks to consider:
Rangers vs. Parker Bridwell
Blue Jays vs. Adalberto Mejia
