DFS MLB Lineups for August 23, 2017 at Draftkings.com & Fanduel.com

For this daily fantasy baseball season, each day there’s a good slate of DFS MLB games, we’ll be writing up a group of pitchers and hitters that we’re considering for our cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. We’ll also provide a list of stacks to consider, MLB start times, starting pitchers, and game run totals to give you a good idea of where the fantasy goodness might come from on a given night. As with any DFS sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to matchup, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster. And if you’re looking for new ways to play DFS, be sure and give BOOM Fantasy and DRAFT a try!

A quick reminder while playing DFS MLB, don’t forget baseball is a game of variance. You can make a really solid lineup and still fall short of the cash line. Even Chris Sale can get lit up, and Paul Goldschmidt can still go 0 for 4. Baseball is funny like that. Trust the process and know that if you’re playing quality lineups, you’ll be a winner in the long term.

Another thing to remember outside of making sure your player is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic routine. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 23, 2017

Luis Severino @ DET ($12.3k DraftKings, $9.9k FanDuel)
As impressive as Corey Kluber’s been this year, the Red Sox lineup has been nearly as resourceful and Severino draws an easier matchup at a much lower price tag on FanDuel. The Yankees best SP bounced back nicely from a rare shelling, allowing just 1 unearned run with 9 K’s to beat the Mets last Thursday and now he faces a Tigers offense that’s been mediocre across the board and took a major hit with the loss of J.D. Martinez. Severino has won 4 of his last 5 starts, including a strong showing against Detroit, and he’s been much better with a 2.40 ERA and 10.68 K/9 ratio away from Yankee Stadium this season.

Zack Godley @ NYM ($9.7k DraftKings, $8.8k FanDuel)
Godley failed to post a Quality Start in his last outing, which has been rare this year, but he still saved value with a 10-strikeout performance in Minnesota last Friday. Now he faces a Mets team that’s been a doormat lately with a .234 batting average and 24.6% K-Rate over the last 14 days and he held the Mets to 1 ER over 6.2 IP in a previous meeting this season. Godley’s been rock solid with a 3.07 ERA on the road and while he’s been unlucky in terms of earning wins, he should get ample run support with vulnerable rookie RHP Chris Flexen going for the Mets.

Ervin Santana @ CWS ($9.0k DraftKings, $8.6k FanDuel)
The White Sox have transitioned to a youth movement and their offense looks a little more dangerous with rookie Nicky Delmonico leading the charge, yet they’re still not a formidable foe for the Twins ace. Santana is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA over 3 outings against the White Sox this year and he’s 8-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 1.08 WHIP on the road, while the Northsiders are dead last in the A.L. in terms of wOBA (.307) and runs scored (374) off RHP this season.

Other pitchers to consider: Corey Kluber, Marcus Stroman, Mike Fiers, R.A. Dickey, Erasmo Ramirez, Mike Montgomery

Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 23, 2017

Charlie Blackmon @ KC ($5.3k DraftKings, $4.4k FanDuel)
There are some very appealing bats to consider tonight in the Rockies lineup, including their dangerous leadoff man. Blackmon is hitting .380 with a .479 wOBA and .328 ISO Mark since the ASB as he’s flashing serious power against RHP this year. Tonight’s starter for the Royals, Ian Kennedy, is giving up a 2.10 HR/9 ratio with a 6.04 FIP and 44.6% Hard Contact Rate when facing lefties and is 0-6 thanks to the 13 HRs he’s allowed over 11 home starts this season, so Blackmon has plenty of upside in this road game.

Didi Gregorious @ DET ($4.1k DraftKings, $3.1k FanDuel)
The Yankees offense is coming alive again and right in time for a plus matchup against RHP Jordan Zimmerman, who has regressed negatively (to say the least), giving up 7 ER in each of his last 2 starts after a stretch of decent production. Lefties are hitting .321 with a 1.94 HR/9 ratio and 40.4% Hard Contact Rate off Zim this year and Gregorious is 4-for-13 with a HR off the veteran righty. With a .344 average and 10 HRs on the road this season, Gregorious has not been dependent on the short porch at Yankee Stadium and he’s a great option at Comerica Park this evening.

Kennys Vargas @ CWS ($3.6k DraftKings, $2.8k FanDuel)
You can get a cheap first baseman tonight with serious pop in Vargas, as the 6-foot-5, 290-pound switch hitter should bat high in the lineup against RHP James Shields with Miguel Sano on the shelf. Shields has posted 3 straight solid starts, but has still coughed up 7 HRs over his last 4 starts and is giving up a 3.55 HR/9 ratio with a 2.03 WHIP when facing LHB this season. Vargas has been much more productive as a lefty throughout his four-year career and he’s certainly strong enough to take Shields deep.

Other hitters to consider: Giancarlo Stanton, Adrian Beltre, J.D. Martinez, Gary Sanchez, Chris Taylor, Tommy Pham, Delino Deshields, Yonder Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Rhys Hopkins

8/23/17 DFS MLB STACKS

Yankees vs Jordan Zimmerman
After jumping all over lefty Matt Boyd last night, the Yankees could keep rolling this evening in their pursuit of a playoff berth. Zimmerman has been consistently lit up this year by both LHB and RHB, so Gary Sanchez is clearly an elite play at catcher, while Aaron Judge finally showed some plate discipline to join in on those early rallies. Todd Frazier has launched 2 HRs in his career against Zim and Brett Gardner is another strong play along with Gregorious now that he’s hot again.

Cardinals vs Jhoulys Chacin
Like many Padres pitchers over the years, Chacin has really struggled away from Petco Park with a 6.90 ERA and .304 BAA over 13 appearances on the road. Tonight he faces a feisty Cardinals team that carries the personality of cerebral catcher Yadier Molina and relentless LHB Matt Carpenter. Both are solid value plays at home, as is young OF Tommy Pham and Rookie of the Year candidate Paul DeJong. Chacin is posting a 1.53 WHIP and 5.58 FIP against LHB this year, so red-hot OF Dexter Fowler is also definitely in play.

Other Stacks to consider:
Rockies vs. Ian Kennedy
Cubs vs. Scott Feldman
Rangers vs. Andrew Heaney
Diamondbacks vs. Chris Flexen
