For this daily fantasy baseball season, each day there’s a good slate of DFS MLB games, we’ll be writing up a group of pitchers and hitters that we’re considering for our cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. We’ll also provide a list of stacks to consider, MLB start times, starting pitchers, and game run totals to give you a good idea of where the fantasy goodness might come from on a given night. As with any DFS sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to matchup, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster. A quick reminder while playing DFS MLB, don’t forget baseball is a game of variance. You can make a really solid lineup and still fall short of the cash line. Even Clayton Kershaw can get lit up, and Mike Trout can still go 0 for 4. Baseball is funny like that. Trust the process and know that if you’re playing quality lineups, you’ll be a winner in the long term.
Another thing to remember outside of making sure your player is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic routine. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for July 17, 2017
Josh Tomlin @ SFG ($8.0k DraftKings, $7.6k FanDuel)
Tomlin’s FIP (4.46) is much lower than his ERA (5.90) which indicates he has been the victim of bad luck at times over the course of the season. That could change tonight though, especially since he is coming off one of his better outings of the year where he held the Padres to two runs over seven innings and picked up the win. Now, he faces a Giants team who owns a .673 OPS against right-handed pitching to go along with a .133 ISO and .291 wOBA. Each of those metrics tells you they are the worst team in the league against right-handed pitching. To put it this way, the Giants are also much worse at home. Plus, Tomlin should have enough run support to pick up a win.
Adalberto Mejia vs NYY ($6.7k DraftKings, $6.7k FanDuel)
The Yankees don’t sell their jerseys on the promise of hitting left-handed pitching well. In fact, they are one of the worst teams when it comes to hitting southpaws (.303 wOBA in 885 plate appearances ranked 22nd). They’re also worse on the road, so that should be helpful for Twins southpaw Adalberto Mejia, who is throwing well as of late. He owns a 2.59 ERA in his last four starts. Plus, he has a decent offense backing him up which could help him earn the win. The Yankees are always a candidate to completely go nuts, so this play is reserved for tournaments only.
Andrew Cashner vs BAL ($6.1k DraftKings, $6.7k FanDuel)
Cashner is quietly piecing together a fairly decent season. He’s certainly hit or miss for DFS purposes, but we love that when it comes to tournaments. He’s got two 21+ point performances in his last four, to go along with two sub 3 point outings. For the multi-entry player, a little exposure at what will certainly be tiny ownership, could pay off nicely. He owns a sound 3.54 ERA in 14 starts and has only let up six home runs on the year. That could work in his favor against the Orioles, who are below-average against right-handed pitching (.316 wOBA ranked 20th in the big leagues).

Best DFS MLB Hitters for July 16, 2017
Jay Bruce vs STL ($4.5k DraftKings, $3.6k FanDuel)
Bruce has clipped 20 home runs against right-handed pitching already this season, so he is one of the best in the game against them. His .303 ISO at home against right-handed pitchers is something to take seriously, especially when the opposing pitcher is Adam Wainwright, who has allowed 31 runs in his last seven outings.
Edwin Encarnacion vs SFG ($4.4k DraftKings, $3.7k FanDuel)
This could be one of those big days for Encarnacion. His .923 OPS and .399 wOBA against left-handed pitching indicate how big of a threat he can be at times and because he is facing Giants southpaw Matt Moore, this could be one of those times. The man he is facing has allowed 31 runs over his last 33.1 innings pitched, so this is one of the more favorable matchups Encarnacion will have this season.
Raimel Tapia vs SDP ($3.8k DraftKings, $3.5k FanDuel)
Good things seem to happen for the Rockies when Tapia is in their lineup. He went hitless in his first 14 at-bats of the year, but hit .372 in the 86 at-bats to follow. His Rockies are at home and in 17 games at Coors this season, he is hitting over .400 and boasts a .542 wOBA against righties there. Plus, the pitcher he is facing, Luis Perdomo, struggles against left-handed batters (.916 OPS against). This could be another big day for the rookie.

7/17/17 DFS MLB STACKS
Athletics vs Jake Odorizzi
Mechanics have been a big issue for Odorizzi lately and in his last seven starts, he has surrendered 33 runs over 35 innings. On the year, he has let up 20 home runs in just 16 starts which could be helpful to a team like the Athletics who own a .200 ISO (which ranks third among 30 MLB teams) in 2685 plate appearances. Yonder Alonso and Khris Davis provide serious power to the A’s lineup while Jed Lowrie and Matt Joyce are also viable options here too.
Indians vs Matt Moore
Moore is not even close to having a good year. The southpaw owns a 6.04 ERA this season and on top of that, he has let up 31 runs in his last 33.1 innings. A team that is competent against left-handed pitching like the Indians (.328 wOBA ranked 11th) should be able to do some damage off the struggling southpaw. Edwin Encarnacion, Yan Gomes, Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor could be valuable weapons against him.
Rockies vs Luis Perdomo
Few teams are better than the Rockies are at home this season (.352 wOBA ranked 4th) and they favor right-handed pitching. It’s a good spot to try their offense out against Perdomo, who has not been a standout this year (4.54 ERA in 15 starts). Left-handed batters own a .916 OPS against him, so this is a good chance to try out some of the Rockies top lefty batters.
