DFS MLB Lineups for July 16, 2017 at Draftkings.com & Fanduel.com

For this daily fantasy baseball season, each day there’s a good slate of DFS MLB games, we’ll be writing up a group of pitchers and hitters that we’re considering for our cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. We’ll also provide a list of stacks to consider, MLB start times, starting pitchers, and game run totals to give you a good idea of where the fantasy goodness might come from on a given night. As with any DFS sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to matchup, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster. And if you’re looking for new ways to play DFS, be sure and give BOOM Fantasy and DRAFT a try!

A quick reminder while playing DFS MLB, don’t forget baseball is a game of variance. You can make a really solid lineup and still fall short of the cash line. Even Clayton Kershaw can get lit up, and Mike Trout can still go 0 for 4. Baseball is funny like that. Trust the process and know that if you’re playing quality lineups, you’ll be a winner in the long term.

Another thing to remember outside of making sure your player is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic routine. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for July 16, 2017

Jeff Hoffman vs NYM ($7.5k DraftKings, $7.5k FanDuel)
Hoffman is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA in four starts away from Coors Field this year. In that span, he has struck out 30 batters in 27 innings and allowed just one home run. That could be helpful against a Mets team that is not hitting well at home (.239 batting average, .714 OPS in 44 home games). Plus, the Mets are averaging less than four runs per game in 25 day games this year, so perhaps their offense is not very good when games start early.

Yu Darvish vs KCR ($11.3k DraftKings, $9.9k FanDuel)
Away from Globe Life Park, Darvish has been masterful. He owns a 2.32 ERA in eight road starts with 50 strikeouts in 50.1 innings. He should be helped out by the fact that the Royals are one of the worse teams in the AL against right-handers (.247 batting average, .712 OPS which ranked 25th through 86 games). The two splits could make for a strong Darvish outing today.

Bryan Mitchell vs BOS ($4.4k DraftKings, $5.5k FanDuel)
The Red Sox and Yankees battled yesterday deep into extra innings and today, they have a doubleheader. Both teams taxed their bullpens yesterday, so the Yankees will rely on Mitchell to pitch deep into the game in his first start of the season. Last year, he posted a 3.24 ERA in five starts. It helps him that the Red Sox are only an average team against right-handed pitching (.749 OPS through 90 games) and that they will likely have a couple reserves in their daytime lineup.

Other pitchers to consider: Rick Porcello, Zack Godley, Andrew Moore

Best DFS MLB Hitters for July 16, 2017

George Springer vs MIN ($5.5k DraftKings, $4.3k FanDuel)
Springer has been hot this month. Through his first nine games in the month, he had collected 18 hits in 38 at-bats including three home runs. Throughout the year, he has hit all pitching well and owns an OPS near 1.000. He should be able to hit Twins starter Kyle Gibson well since Gibson has an ERA over 6.00 this season.

Scooter Gennett vs WAS ($4.2k DraftKings, $3.3k FanDuel)
Over the course of his career, Gennett has hit right-handed pitching quite well. He owns a .337 batting average, 12 home runs and a 1.055 OPS off righties this year and that should be helpful as he and his Reds take on an incompetent one in Tanner Roark today. Roark has a 7.90 ERA in his last seven starts and has let up seven home runs in that span, so maybe the power-hitting Gennett can also take him deep.

Alex Avila vs TOR ($3.7k DraftKings, $2.6k FanDuel)
If there is one time Avila is a valuable hitter, that would be against right-handed pitching. He is hitting .309 with 11 home runs and a .987 OPS against them in 178 at-bats this year which makes him one of the top bats in the game. Maybe he can take advantage of a weak pitcher in Marco Estrada, who has allowed 34 runs in the last 32.1 innings he has pitched.

Other hitters to consider: Nelson Cruz, Ben Gamel, Ian Happ, Jon Jay, Anthony Rizzo, Justin Upton, Danny Valencia, Jean Segura, Zack Cozart, Joey Votto, Adam Duvall

7/16/17 DFS MLB STACKS

Astros vs Kyle Gibson
Sometimes, people just aren’t set up to succeed, and this appears to be the case for Kyle Gibson today. His season is not going so well; he owns a 6.31 ERA in 16 starts and has let up 16 home runs in 81.1 innings on the year. His struggles combined with the Astros prowess against right-handed pitching (.293 batting average, 112 home runs, .867 OPS through 90 games) should result in a high run total. Marwin Gonzalez, Jose Altuve, George Springer, Carlos Correa and Josh Reddick all own OPS’ above .900 against righties this year.

Cubs vs Ubaldo Jimenez
This just shows how little the Orioles have to choose from in terms of starting pitchers. Jimenez owns a 7.25 ERA in 13 starts this season and has surrendered 18 home runs in just 67 innings pitched. The Cubs might not be the best team in the league against righties, but they did own an .843 OPS through their first nine games in July, prior to their Saturday night beatdown over the Orioles. Even so, they should have enough talent to knock out someone who struggles as much as Jimenez. Go for Ian Happ, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Jon Jay, who are their better hitting options against righties.

Reds vs Tanner Roark
Tanner Roark has not been competent since June started. Over his last seven outings, the guy has let up 34 runs and seven home runs in the last 35.1 innings. He is about to face one of the better hitting teams in baseball. The Reds’ .780 OPS against right-handed pitching ranks sixth in the big leagues. Scooter Gennett, Joey Votto, Zack Cozart and Adam Duvall have enjoyed success of righties this season.

Other Stacks to consider:
Mariners vs Derek Holland
Tigers vs Marco Estrada
